cheers for organising rome, great to meet a bunch of like-minded people and put some faces to names
big thankyou to mick and jeremy for their backyard mechanic assistance, unfortunately i got about 2 lots of 2 laps done each time pulling out.
one of the crossmembers/mounting things for the gearbox (running parallel to car body) is secured at one end by two bolts, both of which were missing causing the tranny to hang about 2 inches below where it should, unsecured and free to move up and down. changing momentum of clutch in to change gears meant i could physically feel it move and wasnt comfortable driving it. jacked up and soon found the problem.
went straight to mechanic on way home, got it up on the hoist and his jaw literally dropped. his most senior employee was working on my car yesterday, installing gear selector shift bushings and as a phone call soon determined, remembered it exactly, right up to the part where he put those bolts in barely finger tight, adjusted something else and then answered his phone....forgot to torque up those bolts so vibration from the 200km trip down there and 1.5 laps of marulan made them come unstuck and fall out
no more personal calls at work for this guy
mechanic will reimburse me for track day costs no problem, its just unlucky that shit like this happens, nothing much i can do about it now
time to go out pick up some girls and have a good ending to the day
see y'all at the garage tomorrow
