Introduce yourself

New member - Hi everyone!

Postby Mickyboy » Sat Sep 08, 2012 12:12 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm Mick, a 37 year old living at Montmorency (near Eltham) Victoria with the missus (no kids yet).

After trolling around this site for the last couple of weeks I've taken the plunge and decided to get involved.

My Liberty arrived yesterday so I can officially begin to contribute!

I'm very excited at my new purchase, my very first Liberty - a MY07 3.0R in Urban Grey Metallic, with Satnav. It has 99K on the clock and I actually bought it from a QLD dealer and had it shipped down to Melbourne. It was a risky move I know, but now that it has arrived I think I've pulled it off and come away with a bargain at $16,000 delivered! (+ a 3 month statutory warranty from the dealer)

It arrived yesterday (Friday) and on Monday I'll be officially taking ownership and getting it Vic registered, then it's ALL MINE!

Prior to even receiving it I'd already made plans to make some mild mods in order to get it exactly how I like over the next week or two... ie

Bilsteins - from Wheelpower. (already purchased but not yet installed) to tighten up the handling nicely.
Eibach Pro springs (if I can find some!) - for a nice little drop in ride height whilst maintaining a nice ride.
Window tint from Rob at Car Tint Ringwood.
Reverse Camera - as subtle/factory looking as possible

and in the near future...

Remote tune from Matt at KiDo Racing,
and maybe some Spec B 18" wheels (stock on the 3.0R are the 17s)
I think I will likely wait till I need new tyres before I upgrade to the 18s. A bit hard to justify another $1500-$2000 mod for primarily cosmetic reasons at the mo.

Anyhow just wanted to introduce myself and share my good news. I look forward to getting to know many of you both here and in person. This seems like a really good forum with soooo much great info and wisdom shared by you guys.

I'll post a pic in the coming weeks.

Ciao for now,

Mick

Welcome Mick,

Glad you've gotten into a great H6 lib

Someone's hit the ground running! you'll like the billies, and if you're considering getting Eibach lowering springs you might as well go for a lower offset 18" wheel so it sits flush with the guards, you'll find the stockies will tuck in quite a bit.

Throw some pics up of your beast too!!

Thanks for the welcome and the advice Al.

You may be right re the 17s tucking in. The Eibach drop is only about 25mm which would be perfect for me so hopefully it won't look silly with 17s. Time will tell!

Re hitting the ground running - 3 weeks ago I wasn't even considering buying a Liberty, I was actually leaning more towards a Lexus IS250, but the more I looked into the possibility the more it made more sense to go for a Lib. Then after I drove a couple I was in love! Then it was just a matter of finding the right car at the right price and the rest is history. :)

Just remember 25mm drop will be based on the standard springs that come with the billies, so I think those themselves are a 10mm drop from the KYB struts/springs.

Will look mint with bigger wheels  let the bad influence begin!

Oh I didn't know the Billies would give me a 10mm drop, that may change things. I was of the belief that the Billies would give the same ride height as the KYB Struts/Springs.

Hmmm maybe I should try the Bilsteins on their own first, let them settle in and revisit the option of Eibachs in a few weeks? I may find I'm happy enough on the Bilstein springs to leave them on.

I'm trying to stay logical here and not let my impatience and excitement take over.

Sensible plan :) also the eibachs will be firmer (I think spring rates are 6kg?) so see how you like the billies springs (4.5kg) from memory.

Wow. I didn't think you could get decent coilovers for around a grand. Nevertheless I've got the Billies sitting in my garage ready to be installed this week and they may do the trick for my relatively modest needs. If not then I'll reassess. :)

Welcome Mick. :D
Nice plans, but where are the pictures?
I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!
