Why not use the good tyres on the track? Whats the point of tracking with crappy tyres... kinda defeats the purpose of being able to go as hard as you want/ or possible.

Money. he has just forked out a few $$$ to get some good grippy tyres that he wants to last quite some time

Thats why he is buying a cheap shitty set to just use on the track day, nothing more

Been a poor student you can't afford to keep replacing tyres. Even with crappy tyres I think my driving ability will still be the limiting factor.

Fair enough I didn't mean it to ask it in a bad way, just more the thought process behind it. Marulan is a handling track where tyres will matter more than power.

we can't all afford AMG's  i had the same thought though - was thinking should i use the good tyres and get more grip or just shred the old ones and have fun. i chose fun

Sure you will wear them out a bit but I don't think you will trash them.
It's not a super high speed track and you are not doing hundreds of laps. And in theory the track is probably smoother than a lot of roads you drive on regularly.

I wish I could afford some track tyres but will have to make do with my normal ones.

Save the worn tires for skidpan and burnout times haha. Imo for this sort of a track with tight turns and little run off areas, better tyres will serve you well rather than something which might have you slipping all over the place. The tracks only 1km afaik, you're not going to wear through half your tread on the day. Tyres being your contact point, that's whats going to help you brake and take corners, not driving skill

Skid pan is actually pretty fun in AWD. Can get some good sideways action on the wet skid pan.

Skidpan in a 2L automatic, that will go down well.
