MY08 Liberty tuned by STI announced

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Arith wrote:WTF? One can get the GT Spec B over there for like $35k.

But $65k is also the Australian price. I highly suspect that since they didn't bother to convert kw to HP or torque from nM to pounders/inch, they left the price in Australian as well.

Because with the car market there being so highly competitive, there is no way anyone would pay over $40k for a Subaru no matter what features it has.

Man, I would never buy a STi! Too pricey!

Errr Jim, that legacy post is from the Melbourne Motor Show!

$65K is the aussie price.

Kaycy - Their wording of Subaru Liberty GT Spec B tuned by STi PROTOTYPE i suspect was because it probably wasnt a complete car like our WRX STi in the Sydney show. Same thing, fake wheel covers and blacked out interior.

It also like other have mentioned gives them an allowance to decide what will/wont be on the car.

I always thought the brembos were staying the same just black calipers. Never heard anything of rebranding them STi.

Opps! My bad! :blush2: I thought it was one of the American motor shows. Thought it was just lazy marketing!

Still, $60k+ for a Liberty is absolutely outrageous! I would never get one.

Someone must have sent them the grill, alloys and brakes by Fedex or something like that, then they just put them on a liberty GT.

Anyway, going by what they have confirmed on the placard by the car. They price is wrong, the interior is nothing new, only the sti badges on the seats, STi door sills and STI speedo. I didn't see the chrome door trims at the show.

Can anyone tell me which part of this car was tuned by STi. The sticker and the price if you ask me.

Subaru have gone too far with this one. We'll be getting them for $50K as demos like some blitzens (I paid $60K for mine, what a fool)

4 speed auto? Looking at the photo of the spec sheet doesn't it say "5 speed sportshift automatic" under the Engine and Transmission section?]

AndrewCowley, it's 5 speed manual and 4 speed Sportshift auto. Sport shifting a 4 speed in 2008. You got to be joking me.

Well these cars ARE already here.

There are some at the holding yard in Wetherill Park i have been told and also by a previous post that Franky took photos of at Eastern Creek or so.

Kaycy, you sound abit too passionate about these new STi's. If you dont like, dont buy. Shouldnt bother you that much.

Didnt the MY07 ones go for about close to that?

Anyways, the grille is a surprise to me. They must have read the forums and found us all buying them. Atleast they are now doing the right thing about that.

Kacey, it's easy to dismiss the tuned by Sti as overpriced/not a real model etc. I seem to see alot of people doing it (i may have been guilty of this initially)

Most of the owners I speak to are very happy with the car and others like ozSti who have bought some of the mods (after buying his car not knowing a TB Sti model release was imminent) that come standard on the TB sti model realise that if you want these sort of modifications, the TB sti is actually well priced.

It sounds to me like you are not even aware of the cost of the modifications that come standard on the TB sti so to dismiss the model as badges and sill panels displays your ignorance.

Have you ever been involved in a tradeshow? Sometimes deadlines are not achieved and one must improvise. This may explain the blackening out of the windows. Who knows? Who cares? (Obviously you)

The misprint of the information. Are you one of the tossers that also writes into motor magazine because of a misquoted figure that was probably either a printing error or a job that was delegated to the work experience boy due to a lack of importance.

Either way cynics like you are annoying.

Ask me again in a few months time. If I can't squeeze out more kw from this one after the K2 exhaust (and perhaps downpipe and CAI) and re-tune, I'm just going to chuck the car in the bin.

MY07GT wrote:Anyways, the grille is a surprise to me. They must have read the forums and found us all buying them.

I'm sure it's all a marketing gimmick. How can they change the styling a bit to make it look like a new year, as they need to be slightly different than the 07's without spending too much? Why not chuck in a pre-existing grille from the JDM model?

I just hope the plastics on the key and the interior don't get any cheaper than they already are.

bonski wrote:Arith when you are you trading yours in for an 08?

The D and E series look too similar! :boredom: I'll just buy another JDM Spec B grille and slap on the STi sill plates. Ta-da! Instant MY08 upgrade!

Waiting to see what they have in store for the redesigned 2009 model.

I'm sorry if it does look to you like I am ignorant. But consider this and think a little bit more about it. All the modifications are factory fitted, right. If an sti sill costs $50 and liberty one costs $30, should you be charged $50 more for the STi one? NO. $20 will do. Still don't understand? Look at it this way. If you exchange a 20 cents lemon you bought earlier for a 50 cents orange, you pay the difference, don't you? You don't pay 50 cents and return the lemon. To me it looks like they charge for the factory GT and then the modifications on top.

Has anyone modified his car to the 2.5 GTB specs? If you did? How much did it cost?

What I am trying to say to you is, the price difference is huge compared to the normal liberty GT Spec B. The car is similar to the 07 model minus the STi 6 speed tranny. Limited edition in 2007, another one of the same car in 2008? What will the 2009 limited edition look like?

The grille has been blinged, it's nearly similar to the 07 model that was at the melbourne show (2007), I dont' think it ever appeared in the 07 model.

They did, there is a demo (5K km) for $62,990 at Docklands.
