05 Liberty gt motor options? Rebuild or replace?

Hey guys
My 05 liberty Gt motor I think has a bottom end
Knock in cyclinder 4

Should I rebuild it or replace it with at low klm motor
If found?

Or what other options do I have?

Car is 05 Liberty Gt wagon 163900 klms auto

Any help would be good or recomendations?

Speaking from experience, just swap the motor out for a newer one.
I had a blown turbo, then blown motor so I got a 1,000km old STi 2.0lt from Rising Sun Subaru and swapped my ancillaries on it. That's If u can find one.
Speak to Christian at Rising Sun and he should be able to do something for you.

What model sti bottom end?
EJ207 will it fit?

To clarify he had the whole motor and just stripped off what I didn't need.
Cost me $5000 just for that. But it's basically new.

The sti has the forged bottom end right?
I will have no problems with fitment it all should

While you're speaking to rising sun I suggest the following;

Ej207 brand new shortblock (2300 I believe)
Cost of new gasket kit - 450
Reco heads - 700
Timing belt kit -500 with water pump
New plugs/oil/ filters etc -250
Labour to remove and refit and swap heads/manifolds/ ancillaries over from your motor 1500

Total: 5700

New forged bottom end goodness

Then to save yourself from pitting your new bearings in future, spend another 600-700 for an ecu retune and you're done

Does rising sun supply all of it?
Including reco head?

Should I bother with turbo ?

Hi,

Get a 2.5L short block. There simply no comparison when it comes to torque !! Everything can be moved across from your old engine.

With supporting mods and good tune can handle 200+ KW atw.

While you're there, you may wish to put in some bigger cams and get the heads ported. All depends how far you want to go.

Can I just drop this short block in with no problems?
And just change every thing over ?

Would be good I this the block in your car?
With same turbo ?

Everything will bolt on from your old motor. I did the same thing a few years back. Stock turbo is quickly overwhelmed by the bigger capacity. You hit full boost at very low revs and it flattens out fairly quick. The issue with the GT is the heads (cams and ports). They are small in both respects. If you've got a little extra $$ I strongly suggest you get bigger cams and port the heads given that you have the motor apart anyways. Your engine builder/mechanic can advise you when the have a look :wink:

MSR would be my first choice. Seems to have a good rep. on the forums. He can do all the work including any mods. plus tuning.
