mighty gen5 build

Postby gtbwgn » Mon Aug 06, 2012 8:16 pm

hey all decided to pull all of my posts regarding the gen5 into one build thread.
So how did i get into subarus? had a few over the years then moved to this:

Image
then into this:

Image
After not finding the 08 sti wags i wanted, and some hard thought decided on the current

Image

Ex subaru boss's car with 15.000 km on the clock. Pretty happy with the deal then the mods bug hit
while at the dealership(and time spent looking over subaru japan's web site)
Added
STI front lip
recessed painted grill
STI rear spoiler
front window tint

Then went looking for wheels, did buy some 18" sti rims, then changed my mind to the works instead
so as it stands now

Image

Image

Mods yet to come
subaru japan spec full mats
Damd body kit
Sti pink springs(15mm lower)
waiting on these now coming from import monster

After looking around the other post's from other gen5 owners we all seem to heading in the same direction in terms of mods, but think each one will have there own spin on it

future plans, exhaust and ecu upgrade, some interior changes, but thats it for now sure more ideas will come as it unfolds

I see you are an odds man; gen 1, gen 3, gen 5. Where are the 2s and 4s, the best 2 shapes haha.

I saw that Gen3 on carsales. Was bloody clean and I did love it, if only the cash allowed :( I do prefer the gen2 fronts, but that gen3 was damn sexy.

New wags looks pretty good for a gen5. Still not my cup of tea though. I do like the headlights painted black, that looks aggressive hehe

hey thanks all
agreeded the gen5 has lost some of that subaru dna,but having looked at what the jap spec legacy and there comestic changes i still believe the aussie version has room to grow yet.
dropz seems i have become a odds man, still like the gen2 and 4 just never found one which was as clean as the 1 and three.I still miss the gtb it evolved into something special, where im hoping the br will end up the same.

Still have plenty ideas rolling around yet as to where i want to take this, including a clean up of lights and front end changes. As soon as i have some spare time and fine weather it will begin.

You may want to try and get some confirmation on whether the DAMD extensions will fit, specifically, the rear extensions. I was looking to purchase the rear extensions until i found out that the rear bars on the AUDM Gen 4 and JDM Gen 4 were different. Not sure about the Gen 5.

This thing almost looks really nice

If ti had some colour coded eyelids that covered the rear 1/3 of the light where it goes up and beyond the indicator it would look really good

It really needs 22"s to fill those massive fuck off arches, although i will with hold judgment until lowered as those wheels are do suit the car.
I'd also like to see those headlights blacked out. It may make them a little less offencive.

Other than that, i can see this going places. Quite an aggressive front with the addition of the lip.

ok after having some issues around the gen5 gearbox and its difficulty in its shift points, got to talking to matt from kido tuning and discovered the following:

It is not a gearbox issue... it is an AVCS cam timing issue causing a notchy rev down on the engine making it hard to align the gearbox! That is the problem with tuning for emissions, the engine feel is ignored as the car is run on a chassis dyno through a set program that makes gear changes irrelevant
And with a follow up email ive booked with him for later this month when he is in town for tune.
will see how the changes work for the car.

New rain guards ordered from import today, same as these
Image

also thinking about the led's and front bumper acover as well in the pic
whats people's thoughts on these?

I reckon DRL's look ricey as hell if they aren't OEM (ie. just screwed onto the bumper in no particular position)
They would look alright if they're the same as the above pic.. Integrated into the fog light cover.

+1 to Matt sorting you out. He has tuned my 04GT and the difference is pure awesome.

+1. Even most OEM ones are pretty tacky looking.

Another +1 for the front end/bar :good:

Check whether it's compatible with our current genvs though. And looks like you'd need to get a new grille (flat bottomed)

I'm not a +1 on the DRLs... would prefer something more integrated

The one above looks like a last minute fix to keep up with current trend (my opinion though)
