17l/100km is way too high and indicates a need for a tune. It could be just the computer. I have a mate with a 6.2l SRT8 Chrysler that uses less fuel than that.
Also, a noticeable flat spot that needs a heavy right foot to move the car also indicates a tune is needed.
On long runs the auto will be just as economical as a 6sp due to the taller final drive ratios.
