Single DIN centre console panel

Postby Caldweld » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:20 pm

Hi guys I have done a bit of searching and the option i really want to go for, is this http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php? ... cts_id=115

I have a really nice single din clarion head unit from my old car and the stock stereo doesn't even play mp3 disc's (its not the McIntosh one)

My car is 05 2.5i auto and I am just after any info from anyone that may have done this before or know of this being done! cheers and thanks!

Interesting. Personally, I think it might look a bit odd up there to be honest. Most people have gone for a double din unit in place of the stock one, by purchasing the double din fascia kit (expensive option). There's also a few carPC's installed with the touchscreen integrated into the cubby.

Good luck with your endeavours!!

I am none to fussed with looks i need/want more than just a fm transmitter for the next 6000k round trip I'm doing in September and spending 400+ for the fascia plate is just way to much

Also considering doing the same thing as I cant justify spending 400 buks on a fascia plate at this stage. If you go for this option im Keen to see how it turns out

yeh if i do it I'll take pics and notes.

On a plus! i just had a quick look and the hole for the stock woofer is there (clever subby engineers used the same chassis in that regard ofc) so I'm going to look at using that for placement of the sub need to decide if i cut the parcel shelf or try and find one from a model that used it

this might turn into a build thread :D of on the cheap upgrades for the crapest of the crap stereos.

as for the screen potentially blocking vision I'm tall so thats a plus (and the seat pumps up for my missus)I took a bit of cardboard out there roughly the height of the screen and i can still see the bonnet so another small win already

I'd personally steer clear of installing it there. Helped another member with a custom install and it didnt look too bad but I thought it was a bit high up. Also it had to be mounted on somewhat of an angle due to framwork behind the cubby etc.

The other issue with that install kit that you may have already ordered is that it will replace the clock/trip computer. Its recommended that if purchasing that fascia you also buy the clock relocation kit and move the clock down to where the ash tray is, but then you lose a 12V outlet.

Best option IMO is to just get the $400 fascia kit and install your single din there with a pocket. That way if you ever want to upgrade to a double din, you can do that easily. And if you choose to sell, you will still be able to get most of your money back.

that info a few days ago would of been topnotch :D but oh well its on its way!

I only have the clock/trip comp on temp and the head unit has the time Is there any issue with not having the trip/clock pluged in?

look i'll try it if all else fails i will figure something else out, but 400 just isn't an option

Job done

installed i think it looks alright being high up for this head unit definatly isnt an issue i can see the dash let alone the bonnet with the screen up.

Pics to come, did end up cutting some plastic that was in the way other wise there was no chance the unit would even go back(kept the pieces can epoxy them back if need be) and no need to relocate the trip computer at all the adapter console was made for it.

250 head unit
150 kit delivered
had all the wires and every thing, so all up a much cheaper solution for the people with silly small budgets

con:

Cutting plastic thingy

pro:

Cheap replacement for stock kenwood
