Alternatives to Brembo's

I'm in the process of coming up a list of components for a brake upgrade. I don't plan to track the car, but it does see some spirited driving from time to time. I'm not after a brake setup capable of stopping the earths rotation, just after something with more bite & can take a run through the twisties without going to shit.

From where I sit, calipers are calipers in this instance. Obviously 6pot are different to 4 pot, but for a car that isn't going to see any serious track time, I just don't see the point in spending huge $$$ on Brembo's. Can anyone reccommend some alternative calipers they have had a good experience with?

So far, I'm being a bit creative and have decided on DBA 4000 front rotors.

Just stick with the stock GT calipers, get some decent pads and rotors, plus braided brake lines and some new brake fluid.

Brembos are basically bling unless you are going to track the car, GT/3.0 calipers are very good with all of the above.

Well if you're referring to driving like that last cruise we were on then you might want to look for something up to track levels. One point there my Brembos were fading. Your brakes can never be too good

You'll find the stock fluid to boil quite quickly Dan. . Good fluid makes a great difference in terms of boiling temp.

But yes Tristian brembo's are acually one of the cheaper big brak options. I think the only one that's cheaper is "willwood" if that's even how the brand is spelt, but even they add up to a few $x,xxx once you get pads rotors etc.

If you spend $1500 on top of the range rotors ( DBA 4000 would be fine, they are good to 600 degrees I think), pads, fluid and lines all round on the gt calipers you will be stopping pretty much as well as a stock brembo set up.
I'm only comparing from when I had done the above to my gt calipers then jumping in a mates wrx with a stock brembo set up.

Tyres also play a big part. .

PS... Colored calipers take 5m off you'r 100-0 distance .

Brembos or stock gt/3.0 with good pads and fluid. Brembos are a street/oem/daily driver caliper. Not track stuff. The stock brakes are excellent with the right pads and a good fluid. If they do x amount of work, consider a brembo capable of 50% more. The actual proper /alcons / ap etc in bridged monoblock design are a few grand per corner. That's track stuff.

Thy are also oem quality, ADR approved, insurance and engineers love them, have all the right jazz for street manners, and are already set up for a 1500kg Subaru.

Willwood/stoptech/ksport/kido/etc etc are all bling shit and most of them are useless.

I agree with what these other guys are saying.

Pads & fluid & lines will give you better feel & heat resistance.

What you really need is fade resistance more than superman stopping power (in which case your tyres probably won't be up to it anyway).

They might have some bling value but a lot of STI owners take their Brembo's off and fit Kido 6 or 8 pots because they want to stop time after time, not just once or twice. Where do you think the ready supply of used Brembo's come from?

Don't worry I will . Think it was my pads to. That was my first hills session on the project MU street pads.
I'll Deffiantly be putting the hyper carbons back in for the next one. Difference is night n day.

Brembo's are one of the cheapest big brake kit upgrades. Especially when you get the calipers second hand. Throw a seal kit at them if they need it and a fresh cost of paint and they are close to new again.
