No, bought it second hand from a Financial Planner. Considering those guys are highway robbers I'm guessing it might not have been treated very well but who knows. I'm sure there is a lesson in there somewhere

Considering the oil is fairly new, I think it does sound too noisy for my liking.

Have you taken it to Subaru to listen to it, and what's their opinion?

Why has XRT told you to get rid of the car?

I noticed you are experienced with Romraider and possibly Learning View. How have the LV screenshots looked?

Ok, probably not the right forum for this but seeing as bass_straitener asked for it, here's the learning view attached. No learned correction in there but the FBKC is definitely showing in all the logs.

Unfortunately David that LV would be as expected as this was not taken whilst running the tuned map.

I would've like to see a LV whilst running the XRT map.

Yep but this problem with knock occurs on the stock map and on the tuned maps. I went back to the stock map to simplify the diagnosis and make sure it was a more conservative tune.

In terms of the LV it looks clean I guess. This is the strange thing, all the FBKC never amounts to FLKC...odd? Matt from Kido reckons it might be preemptive knock correction - - no wonder all these tuners have IT degrees!

Its hard to tell from the clip, but for your issue, it sounds like vavle issue with sensitivity around that area. I am not a mechanic and it is best you have one check it.

This may require your heads be pull and even check for clearances and any maybe valve seating issues. Again all speculations.

THe car does not registered it because it's settings is to learn knock over 1.30g/s engine load. It is done this way to prevent false non detrimental knock.

Cool, will try that as the nulon octane booster made no difference.

This is turning out to be a very long winded process which has put a screaming halt on my mod plans

I'm pretty sure all of my Subarus sounded like that, I took my first one (MY05 2.5i) back to the dealer a few times as I was worried about it but was told it was normal. MY06 XT Forester, MY09 WRX and now MY08 Lib GT also sound the same.

I'll stick my head under the bonnet later to double check & maybe even post a vid.

after hearing the clip id say it does sound nosiy in the top end, i could be wrong though as its hard to tell but id be checking valve clearances if you cant get to the bottom of the knock. your mechanic should be able to tell it its got noise though

Hydraulic Lifters are there to automatically adjust the the clearance between the cam follower and the cam
so basically keeping the cam and lifter touching each other with the correct force/ distance
the newer motors use solid lifters (buckets) with or without shims

Sometimes the shims may need replacing due to wear of the cam/ shim/ bucket/ valve/ valve seat, etc and they get noisy and rattle a bit.
worst case is a shim comes out from between the bucket and cam/ valve and it bounces around in the head, jams a valve or cam and you get damage to the valve/ piston or it skips teeth on the
timing belt and the pistons mince your valves and heads.
