Cookie000, sorry just work up after night shift... So this may have already been clarified. What car are you putting this in to?

Seems a few people have downloaded it and burnt with some issues but a slower burn rate etc. My only guess is you need C1 or burning to quick?

Has anyone else had any issues? I have burnt previous iso's to DVD-R without any problems

Did you sort this ?
I just had my first pass at a disc fail in the car. Could not be read. I unzipped again to a new ISO, then used an image burning app rather than Windows Image Burner used on the first disc.
I also burnt the 2nd disc at a slower speed. It is now working.

Have tried out a second disk (DVD-R) and burnt it at a slower speed and it's still not working.

The map will come up and then will say please insert map dvd.

I used imgburn to burn both discs. Maybe I should try the inbuilt windows one.

My map drive just sat repeatedly spooling up unable to find what it needed. Didn't even get a map up.

Another thing I found interesting. A few weeks ago I had to replace the car battery. Afterwards, with my burnt v17 map disc installed, the Sat Nav had some message about needing software.
So I swapped v17 for the original Suby disc and it loaded what I can only assume was the core OS for the Nav. After it had finished I was able to put the burnt v17 disc back in.

Might have to give that a try, still have my original v14 (I think) that came with mine.

If you are getting the 'insert map dvd' message then there is no point trying the original disc. All it will do is work perfectly.
After disconnecting the battery I was not even getting the 'insert map dvd' message but some other software error, it was this that needed the original DVD.

Just last night I got round to burning C2 using Roxio...

I put the disk in, the car said 'insert map disk' - I ejected it and inserted it again, and it loaded it.

I haven't driven it since so not sure if it will stick... I burnt onto a old single sided DVD-R that I had (1-8x) - I didn't change any Roxio settings, let it burn at default.

Re disconnecting the battery -the system must hold some information in volatile memory - if the car loses all power, this info is lost. This must include something relating to the Firmware that drives the Nav. The firmware is OEM and only on the OEM disc. This is why you need to insert the OEM disc after loss of power.

hi all

1st time poster but long time viewer of this forum...excellent info resource and mateship all round...well done
pls allow me to post some info and details which i've gathered about this satnav update
got both versions C1 & C2 and here's what i know.....

if your vehicle is the one of the following models - taken from the whereis website

1) Liberty base/limited navigation edition MY08-MY09
2) For Forester MY09 onwards, Impreza MY08 onwards
3) Liberty MY10 onwards
4) Outback MY10 onwards
then you'll need C2

!) Forester MY07-MY08
2) For Liberty and Outback MY07 to MY09, all Tribeca models
then you'll need C1

pls allow slowest possible speed on your DVD burners to burn the ISO file to disc
I've used DVD+R & DVD-R and both formats are OK
my choice of burning s/ware is IMGBURN as this will automatically select the burn speed

For any ppl out there with Toyotas - the C1 will work in Toyota Canmrys + Klugers..not too sure about the other models but pretty confident it'll work too
For Mitsubishis - i think the C2 disc will be required

i think the official designation of this update is called "2012 TOYOTA LEXUS Subaru Mitsubishi DENSO v18" so it might work on any of the listed brands
not too sure about which particular edition though as i've only tested with the 3 brands above

I've also looked into both ISO files and here's what i know of the 2 different editions
C1's VERSION.TXT shows "COMMENT=ver.R18_V7;" with modofied date of 3rd May 2012
ISO file is 3.74GB

C2's VERSION.TXT shows "COMMENT=2011 ver.1;: with modified date of 4th July 2011
ISO file is 3.07GB

Seems like C1 is the newer version
My mate in the Toyota was also telling me that the C1 has now got a OSD of the current vehicle speed which is not evident in the C2 edition
For more detailed info on this update download this PDF - http://www.whereismaps.com/resources.as ... Update.pdf

pls feel fee to add any comments or feedback to this post...thx

I burned it with imgburn. When I first inserted it I also got the message to insert a map disk and ejected it and re-inserted it. It then took just fine and has been working since.

Already download V18C2, and working well. Many thanks to everyone.

This GPS is missing so many information, like speed limit, hopefully will be updated next time.
