It's actually a defectable offence to have the tow ball attached when not in use. Saving the world one shin at a time

They'd better go book half of Australia then.

I figured in the mean time it would be used against the bump parkers or bump and run drivers that plague ACT.

I have almost taken out my shins a couple of times already so its coming off this weekend... :D :D

I think my tow ball would have scrapped along the ground when launching, if I ever had it in that is.

Funny you should talk about tow bars. I had a copper pull me up for a rbt in the wife's wagon. As he walks around behind the car to check the exhaust pipe out he walks straight into the towball and starts swearing his head off. Forgets to breth test me an gets back in his car all teary eyed and drives off

Naw, it's totes "illegal" and won't pass a RWC with the tongue and ball on. Having said that if you got pulled up, who's to say you aren't on your way to pick up a tandem to move your grannies Torana?!?!

Check out VSI 24 on vic roads web site, it is not 100% clear but say:
Note (4):
A towbar toungue can be a dangerous projection when a trailer is not attached. The towball may also obscure the number plate. Therefore the towbar toungue and towball may need to be removed while the vehicle is not towing a trailer.
So prob need someone legal to confirm but I would interpret that as if it is not obscuring your number plate and preferably you have a shin guard it shouldn't be illegal. The last police office I asked about (a long long time ago) it said it was fine, but hey a lot of things are at the discretion of the officer so I dunno (NOT saying that there is anything wrong with that!).
