hi, simple question will 225 tyres fit on the standard 17 x 7 rims, currently has 215/45

I meant 225's look better. And the give you a bit of rim protection. just make sure you get good tyres otherwise you will get a bit of side wall flex.
I have cheap ass tyres @ 225 atm, but I’m running them at 43psi to compensate.
235 would be too wide.

I'd rather run decent 215 tyres than cheap 225s...

I run this on my 18's and they are fine. My speedo is much more accurate now than it was before (previously 5-6kph out, now only 2kph out, according to GPS).
However the downside is that your trip meter is now not as accurate (at least for my car) - over one of those 5km meter test zones on the highway, I'm out by about 200 metres per kilometre (1km trip distance now equals 1.2kms real distance).
Also be aware that if your car is lowered, or loaded up, you may rub a little over large bumps and yumps at speed with this larger profile (45 instead of 40 on an 18" rim).
