225 or 215 ?

hi, simple question will 225 tyres fit on the standard 17 x 7 rims, currently has 215/45

Just be aware that your speedo will read slightly higher (probably more accurate).

Also be aware that 225/45R17 tyres aren't common and are thus more expensive - 235/45R17 are much more common (common size for Commodores and Falcons) and actually cheaper, but are starting to get a bit wide for a 7" rim (fits perfectly on a 7.5" rim though).

I meant 225's look better. And the give you a bit of rim protection. just make sure you get good tyres otherwise you will get a bit of side wall flex.

I have cheap ass tyres @ 225 atm, but I’m running them at 43psi to compensate.
235 would be too wide.

I'm currently running 225/40 on my Lib Spec B 18" wheels, they're undersized so speedo reads 10% more than real speed (according to GPS).
With 225/45/18, yes they'll fit. They're 8mm taller in diameter compared to stock 215/45/18 and speedo-wise, they'd probably make the speedo closer to the GPS "real" speed.

I dont know what made me just think of this now.
When you do run a larger tire and you get a flat, if your spare is still stock you have to put it on the rear and if its auto put the fwd fuse in.

I run this on my 18's and they are fine. My speedo is much more accurate now than it was before (previously 5-6kph out, now only 2kph out, according to GPS).

However the downside is that your trip meter is now not as accurate (at least for my car) - over one of those 5km meter test zones on the highway, I'm out by about 200 metres per kilometre (1km trip distance now equals 1.2kms real distance).

Also be aware that if your car is lowered, or loaded up, you may rub a little over large bumps and yumps at speed with this larger profile (45 instead of 40 on an 18" rim).

How can you be sure that your trip computer is out? If the speedo was closer to accurate, then wouldn't the trip computer be more accurate?
Ive thought about resetting ODO and rely on my Speed GPS application in my iPhone - it should be able to tell me if its accurate etc... Currently have 215/45 17" and speedo is about 9kph out. (if doing 100, real speed is 109kph)
