250kws can be achieved with about 26psi boost and a good tune.

But the downside will be a motor that will last 6-12 months with than setup.

I disagree, there are at least 4 cars that I know of that have been modded by Phat that are 250kw atw if not more, most of them for longer than a year, one of them has been for at least 3 years from what I know.

If you do it right, you can run 250 without forged pistons

Could you name one person please who has achieved this with a 2.5GT.

And show me the dyno printout.

I don't think it's my place to share that info if the people wish to remain anonymous, one of whom I know for sure would prefer to remain anonymous. His car was dyno tuned for 270kws and was wound back to 250. On a dyno that tuned a car with full turbo back exhaust, boost controller, panel filter and upgraded top mount intercooler at around 170kws so it isn't exactly a happy dyno, it was a pretty realistic number.

Anyone interested in my claim is more than welcome to contact Phat and ask him for his experiences himself. In fact, I will do a search now and find his exact post where he mentions the same thing.

Haha just as I found it Justin I realised you posted that! But here is his exact quote for anyone doubting:

the 380 would be good for an auto chasing 200-220

E85 = forgies not required. Rod bolts and head studs another matter.

Blah blah blah

My suggestion to the topic question is:

- for 220kw atw on a 2.5 with standard internals and a manual gearbox - gt3071r with a .64 rear housing for quicker spool

If you never intend on going for more power / forties etc, then that would be it

If you want quicker spool, go the billet wheel gtx3071r.

If you're happy with a bit more lag but more oomph up top then same turbo but with a .82 rear housing

However I caution against the latter if you really want to putt around town in 2-4k territory, as it will not be very fun

There are other turbo options but since you have asked for Garrett only the above are my suggestions

And 250awkw can be made reliably on stock internals on a 2.5, but it's safer to go forged pistons and new bearings /crank before doing this if you really want to be safe

The 2.0 internals are also stronger than 2.5 thus can handle more in factory form

I can also attest to the car mentioned by Rome making a true 270kw atw

Would I have internal problems with the gt3071r or will it clap out in a year or 2??

Hard to say, but i would budget on a rebuild within 2 years. Extra load on the moving parts.

I'd budget on a rebuild immediately as if you can't afford the worst case position then you can't afford to start modding

Lady at work late forty something year old - stock 07 Gt auto. Granny driver in every sense.

Serviced at regular schedule by Subaru since purchase

87,000kms.

Completely stock

Blown ring land = bye bye motor

These things happen so you need to allow for them

Best approach is to assume 5k cost of stock rebuild once you start modding, and hope for the best case

Or you can do as I did - sell your 6 litre v8 with the aim of saving money, buy a Gt lib, fool yourself into thinking it will stay stock, and nine months later end up part way through a forged build and gearbox conversion chasing 350awkw. Trust me things change VERY quickly once the bug bites. So if you think you're going to e even the slightest bit tempted to chase more power, budget for a rebuild within the first six to twelve months

Be realistic and plan twice, act once.

Good luck mate

Expect to bleed money and lots of it. Dont kid yourself.
Otherwise if you have the cold hard cash anything is possible just add perseverance to the mix and you should be right.

Totally agree with Rome. You have to be realistic about turbo upgrades. It has to be a small upgrade for more torque rather then power if the stock internals are going to be living inside for a long period of time. You will get away with it for a while and it may be a long while but you could have 230kw atw and only have it for a week. Upgrade the internals first and then the turbo or both at the same time. I will eventually chase the 300 club and i know that, just not yet. Do it once and do it properly.
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??
