a $150.00 part which will cost you about x20+ in price to fix..

If it was are damaged piston, you would have seen a lot more white smoke (burring oil).

But the metal fragments in your oil point to a spun big end bearing, just as Justin pointed out.

Cheers Tony will keep that in mind, i just got my tax done yesterday so i have a bout 5k to play with, so im thinking forged internals if Mr Insurance man wont cover it.
Cant make the car too mental as the misses drives it aswell, but i am still aiming for a about 200kw and she can have a Si Drive setting for herself lol

Yea im thinking the same, but its not costing me anything for them to send a guy to look at it, bad fuel blocking an injector cause it to lean out and go pop is covered i believe, but trying to prove it was from bad fuel is a loosing fight to start with.

I wish I had a jiucy update Justin....... Too hard to organsie the install and tune, with Superlap coming up next month it's out of the question for the next 4-6 weeks.

5k could get you back on the road with a OE short block (No forgies), but bear in mind you need your tune corrected to ensure this don't happen again. No reason why you can't get 200 kw with the OE short block, good tune, TBE and a bolt on turbo..... 380 xt in this case

if it had full service history at subaru they often help or cover the whole cost or part of the cost to fix it as good will. if i had a new car in warranty i would be getting all services done at the dealership for a little more security

approximately:

$5K OEM short block replacement & install + tune
$8-10K+ forged short block replacement + tune

Any other options, corrections or additions?
e.g. DIY bearing replacement, 1/2 cut etc.

Cheers i gave them a call but they guy wasn't there, he is going to call back with a few options for me.

Mine has done the big end so yea =( and Insurance was a wast of my time, but was worth a try as its still unknown wtf caused this to happen.

So a little update for you all,
The short block is now in Melbourne at the Frankston Engine Center and being kitted out with some Manley Pistons and Rods and a new Crankshaft, my heads are being cleaned up checked and the same with the Oil pump (if it needs a new one ill do it) some APR Head studs and Cosworth head gasket are going in (thanks to Tony's advice, yay team Tony!) and it should be ready for me to pick it up end of next week.

All of the above combined is costing me 4,800 with warranty and my mate is going to help me out again putting the rest of the motor back together as he works for Subaru and can get the stuff cheaper then i can, so that will save me some extra cash that i can use to get a dump pipe to go with the VF52 sitting in the shed with the rest of the stuff i bought from Gordy off here and then off for a tune after its been run in a bit.

Nice choice of parts there Ash, great price too.

Gordy’s VF52 had some interesting rear housing modifications by Phat GT, you should very happy with the results.

I also forgot to mention to get some good mineral or semi synthetic 20/50 oil for the run in.
