I drag mine out occasionally now, mainly for navigation, and GPS speed seems ok. Registers zero when I stop moving and a slight lag when I start moving again, but that is normal.

Are you familiar with the limitations of radio signal propogation?

No, I'm not actually - would you like to explain it?

However, my concerns are based on a comparison to the previous (now defunct) ECUdatascan I had.

Re: EcuDataScan discussion: Logging error question

Postby bigBADbenny » Tue Jul 03, 2012 12:38 pm

Recording log fails with an error message after 10 minutes or so, on screen message reads "cannot write to log file" or similar.
Dashboard has PSI boost, GPS speed, coolant temp, air intake temp.
I have the latest software on the factory supplied 2GB SD card, working iGO8.

Anyone had or overcome this issue? Very keen to get logging. :)

I might try re-updating the software from the SD card with all of the default folders in place.
Last time I updated, I did it from an "empty" card, so perhaps the ECUds isn't recognizing the log folder, even if it "sees" the iGo, music and movie folders...
Any advice???

What is on the SD card of everyones unit? Mine is farking up something chronic (errors every few minutes for a while there, broken mount, etc etc etc) and I just checked out the SD card to see what is on there and it's empty.. 2 folders (errors & saved logs) that I can't open cos they're corrupt and that's it.

My ECUds did that too and having not backed up the original SD card contents from brand new, I had to request a backup from the forum.
It wouldn't record logs or screenshots, and in and around trying to update or repair it I lost the supplied iGo as well.

Once I downloaded the backup (keep a backup copy of that too) I still had the issue, even after applying the software update from the ECUds site.
The problem was corrupt data in the logs folder which I could not delete.
I reformatted the supplied 2GB card, copied the backup to it along with the software update and all was good.
Except that applying the software update apparently destroys some part of the iGo functionality...
So I just recopied the iGo folder from the backup to the SD card, overwriting the card's iGo folder.

As for the mount, my dock part cracked with very little provocation (I bent it a little to see how much "give" it had!)...
Luckily the crack was not all the way through, I roughed up the back of the dock with sandpaper and super-glued triangle shaped reinforcing braces cut from plastic board to each side adjacent the mount slot.

So the ECUds rocks... except mine is still prone to crashing when I'm giving the car a squirt - any suggestions for a fix?
I'm also investigating a DIY center dash top pod to house it, as my dash cubby has OEM nav inside.
The ECUds was great when I had radiator problems recently, being able to see the exact coolant temps (prior to radiator replacement) was a godsend!

Where did you get the backup Ben? I just did a half assed search on the ecudatascan forum and can't find anything.

The main Ecudatascan page seems to have been hacked too.. weird.

Cheers Ben, received your backup. Thanks mate.

Formatted the card and loaded up the backup.. sweet as the unit worked as it first did when I took it out of the box.

Was going through all the screens making sure it all worked.. Hit record on the dashboard and it got an error so I reset it.. Once it had reset itself I tried the GPS and bam it crashed and shut itself off.. Turned it back on and it has farked the SD card again. No more gps/wallpapers/anything. Yay.

Sounds familiar! Check the card for corrupt data in the logs folder first. It you can't delete it, reformat and copy it all back.
Updating, maybe resetting too, kills the iGo, so just get it updated, working, then copy back the iGo folder.
If there is no corrupt data in the logs folder, just copy back iGo.

You can check all the data on the SD card by simply copying it to your desktop - if that fails - there will be corrupt data on the card so reformat.

Had me stumped for a while... :D
Mine works well now, apart from gps speed (in 4x digital/bar meter view) taking a while to kick in and crashing occasionally at +18psi - both of which are quite normal apparently.
I'm intending to use the audible over speed limit warnings in iGo when interstate - reduce ticket paranoia

Try copying the backup to a new SD card, a few people had problems with the one they provided.

Hey
So pretty annoyed I missed the awesome group buy of these. I went to go find out more and to see if I could order one or something and the ECUdatascan website has been hacked pretty good... and nothing on ebay. It seems only forums have info atm.

Will there be another group buy? Or does anyone know where to get a new one?

Try a google search like "FS For sale ecudatascan" and limit the search to "pages from Australia" during the last week or month.
There have been a few group buys across the various forums...
If you can't get that together an ECUds is not for you J/K :D
I was considering selling mine, but I just got a Matt tune so the logging is quite handy right now, as was keeping an eye on coolant temps when my rad crapped out.

Is that German navigation thing with some reference to navteq maps the actual I-go application or is that something separate to be loaded?

No idea but PM me for iGo.

As I got the car tuned by Matt last night, I asked what parameters would be relevant to him regarding logging.

Boost (psi)
AF1
Ignition total timing
Learned ignition timing

Now I just have to work out scatter graphs in Excel :D
