Postby Mr.TT » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:29 pm

Hey guys just brought my GT a few days ago got it on the road and was wondering is there any turbo upgrade options for this car as I've done research but there all going against each other i don't even know what turbo i have in it in the first place! its a 2004 Subaru Liberty GT 2.0ltr with a auto transmission its completely standard I'm hoping to achieve 200awkw+. Any help would be very appreciated.

isn't he using the same turbo housing as the one we already have? that still has a lot of limitations doesn't it?

That set up would net you 175-180 at the treads. If you want a genuine 200 at the wheel you will need deep pockets.
Edit: what I am trying to say is that set up is great value.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

The turbo housing has been modified/machined to suit larger VF34 internals.

No real limitations as I see it, quite a few advantages though.

A true 200kw ATW's is not going to be an easy task to get with the Auto. That being said, it is possible, but there are a great deal of supporting mods that will be required... So don't think it will be as cheap & easy as simply getting a new turbo & a tune.

If you want a good turbo for the 2.0L GT's I'd be going for the HKS GT 25/30 - But they aren't cheap!:

Image

Good size for the auto & with the right mods (Go HKS!) you should be able to get 200kw ATW's or bloody close to it.

The HKS 2530 is a Garret 2878r with a HKS specific set of wheels in it isn't it? Would be pretty good. I am starting to think that a fancy td05-18g with a 7cm hot side would be ideal for an auto. Like a BBK-M or a blouch 18xt. Would have to come close to 200. Oh, and auto people, don't get too hung up on dyno numbers, torque converters mess up the results. Just run a pass and get MPH. 102-103 mph should be 200 in one of these subaru lounge rooms.

Rehashed 2860rs with smaller trim compressor and .48 exh housing

200awkw with the auto is a tough ask to see on a proper dyno

No real bolt on upgrade other than rusty's setup currently for sale

Either way you will lose the twin scroll unless you get a set of custom equal length twin scroll headers to suit a vf37 or aftermarket twin scroll turbo

Good luck

Mick.
You retain the twin scroll with mine as it's the original VF38 housings, they've been modified/machined to suit the larger VF34 internals.

I would really like to see a curve from that setup of yours rusty. Some other chap was talking the big game about it on these forums but his threads have gone cold. I think if your kit doesn't sell by say, tomorrow morning, you should fit it your wagon to satisfy my curiosity.

Sorry rusty that was poorly worded off the iPhone

I meant any other way would dictate loss of twin scroll goodness (which I do definitely miss amd might be going back to twin scroll once my super duper build goes through, albeit a relatively larger size twin scroll turbo ;) )

To the original poster - basically rusty's setup is the best bang for buck I reckon you could do to retain the great spool characteristics of the twin scroll vf38 and releasing some up top oomph
