I know NRMA does this because I cancel and renew my policy every year I get older (until I turn 25) as it gets cheaper and cheaper. Just make sure your insurance with the new provider is in force before cancelling current insurance or else you could end up uninsured for a period of time.

2. Nice work looks nice and shiny now...you're not going to go with a black core for stealth? Also the new core looks slightly wider than the original core....or is that just me? Phat fits the pipes very precisely so if it is a different size that could pose a fitment problem...

3. Stop trying to make it look like you lift

That is why i haven't said a thing! I have been with them for 6 years now plus it is under my fathers name for cheaper premium...

I originally wanted to go the stealth look but i figured what is the point of spending a $1,000.00 bucks on your car for people to say it looks the same? If you got it flaunt it! It is a few maybe 10mm wider which shouldn't be a problem as i will push the pipes hard up against the outlets...

Sorry bro... That one isn't mine... That is my mums one... Mine doesn't fit in the picture lol! 8)

someone else has dibbs on it first but if he doesnt want it when i remove it ill let you know.

The Shannons info came from someone who had advised of the removed crash bar. I also received this info over the phone from Shannons

thats bullshit,, if you have modified your car and this mod effects the car original structral integrity in anyway its classified as un roadworthy if say the front mount was Australian design approved like a bullbar nudge bar than this is ok, but this is all they need to void your insurance.

New laws have been introduced in victoria and these new laws allow a licenced vehicle tester to knock back your car if its structure has been modified or even after a crash and the repairs are sub standard

and you trust some wanker in a call center?

Well just going by what the member told me that had it approved in his policy. And no I wouldn't trust a wanker in a call centre, but if I get it in writing in my insurance policy it gives me a little more comfort. When I eventually do apply for the insurance all my mods will be listed in writing.

And I'm in NSW so don't need to worry about that licenced vehicle tester

i know, but it will say something in the fine print that will no doubt cover there ass, if they say no we wont pay due to the crash bar modifications then try and fight them im very sure they will win if the catch u

This is kind of where I was coming from when I wrote this:

Getting it all in writing improves your chances of a successful claim but it isn't the be all and end all. They can still deny your payout. Worst case scenario, your car gets totalled right at a time when they are experiencing much higher than normal claims (say during flooding or something like that), they could start assessing cases a lot more stringently and if they want to find a way to deny your payout they can. That's why they will include wording such as "the modification will be covered as long as it does not become the cause of accident or damage" or some shit like that blah blah blah.

After 5 years of dealing with all kinds of insurance companies I can tell you that nothing is certain no matter what you have in writing, but not having it in writing is just taking an unnecessary risk

i see what you mean and hope i havent come off arrogant.

at the end of the day all comes down to risk, id rather have it listed than not as you say for a little bit better chances, but be aware its not legal at all, maybe get an engineers cert for the mod if you mod the crash bar, if they do check it you may have issues... im trying to make people aware that its not always black and white never trust insurance company's

Intercooler: FMIC & TMIC

Postby Gambit » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:38 pm

FYI, I obviously had a FMIC with the crash bar removed, declared it all with Shannon's and when my car was written off I was paid out with no questions asked about it. Fact.

Jackson (Jacks GTB) recently had a Water to Air intercooler installed.
I spoke to MSR about it and he said it was an absolute bitch of a job.
Took Mick 2 days to install and said he won't be doing another one again.
Jackson was wrapped with the outcome though!

Had a read of all of this.

Jim has nailed it, no matter what you do to a TMIC, it simply cannot do what a FMIC does.
The stock, or any aftermarket TMIC sits in an extremely hot engine bay, with the forces of convection constantly working against it. They do ok, but pound for pound(excuse the pun) the FMIC will cool the air fast, and more efficiently resulting in better combustion, thus power/torque.
If any of you know me from the other forums i have done this to too many cars to mention, its a half day job with a beer in your hand, and i genuinely challenge anyone who has changed to a FMIC to say the tmic was better.
Lag is not noticeable over the TMIC, and the cooling efficiency is much better. The flow of air head on allows the core to work much better, the "used" air then goes to the radiator, and dissapates under the car/some into the engine bay.
The tmic has a small air intake on the bonnet that forces air to change direction to the tmic, and it is also met by all the in engine hot air that is rising, heat sock on all coolers are a constant, the tmic being the worst, it has engine/turbo heat constantly warming it, the fmic only has the radiator.

This is not new info, or groundbreaking, the simple laws of physics dictate the FMIC being better, and for the cost of $5-600, you would be crazy not to do it.

Now the crash bar thing.
i was an assessor for many years with the big insurer, and i know the game, and the rules very well.

Some thoughts ;)
If you remove the crash bar, and installa FMIC, you will be very happy to know you have upgraded your impact protection, a FMIC core is insanely strong and hard to break, it is much stronger then the factory crash bar. true story!

I only insure with shannons these days due to the insane mods lists, and them being quite good to good drivers with a few years on the clock.
Any legal modification you do to the vehicle they will insure, if you read the product disclosure statement there are some exclusions, but nothing that concerns us here.
If you are genuinely worried about removing the crash bar, and installing a fmic, simple, get the car engineered, its cheap, and your then covered.

Now, i want people to take this statement, and not have a go at me, im simply telling you something shpould you have a claim, and it be investigated for the fmic: "IT WAS ON THE CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT"
Simple, end of story on that one.

i have seen easily 1000's of claims go through with cars that had illegal/non listed modifications, and i have seen some knocked back, however i have ONLY seen mods knocked back for these reasons:
*not listed
*dodgy/illegal installation

A recent example i helped a friend through the process after he crashed his car(his first real accident), long story short, he ran into the car infront of him, and had not updated his policy in 2 years, and he had an insane amount of mods done.
he was lucky they just paid him out, i CANNOT STRESS ENOUIGH list every single modification you do to your car, no joke, evan decals, beacuse if they get damaged in an accident etc, they will not pay for them unless they are stock, my 91 RS liberty has 4 a4 pages of mods, and is comp insured for $27000, and i have listed everything from brembo's to shifter bushings.

I bring this up because i would like people to know there own responsibility, and something that might interest a few, i installed the FMIC on his car, he hit a stationary car doing 60km/h, the fmic hit his tow bar, it didnt go through the fmic, it just bent it, and the whole front got pushed into the engine. this is first hand experience of how strong FMIC's are.

Anyway, i hope some of this has been informative in some way or another. i need coffee....

Thanks for the info.

I'm very happy to be with shannons. I don't trust the others with modding.

I would love to know why?
First hand experience shows there pretty damn good.
Have installed them on cars in the sub 200kw atw to 220kw atw area and they love it, and a few of the boys on RSLC have used them on 300kw+ atw rides.

Im off to the garage to tool about...
