MY07 McIntosh 6 Stacker

Postby sawaad » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:42 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get either a new or reconditioned 6 CD indash stacker for a McIntosh HU (from a MY07 Liberty 3.0R Spec B. HU model PF-28241). I had the dreaded stacker jamming issue. Ended up taking the stereo out and getting the discs out of the stacker, however the stacker didn't survive the ordeal :D

My McIntosh system (MY05) hasn't jammed, but it has stopped reading CD's... with a message on the screen 'FOCUS ERR', very irritating when the MY05's don't have the AUX input,

anyway does anyone know how to fix it?? it has happened in the past, but after taking out all the cd's and putting them back in it worked again.. boy radio sucks...

it didn't work this time however...

gahhh!!

Does it happen all the time or just every now and then??? I remember in my '05 GT some mornings there would be a little moisture/condensation on the laser, after a few mins once everything has gotten up to temp it was all good.

+1 here with a non-working stacker PF-24281 (or PF-2428i depending who you talk to)
Mine was not working when I bought the car, finally got out the HU and removed one cracked CD, now the LOAD prompt comes up but disks go in and then come straight back out...

I am doing the AUX cable install tomorrow so I can have some music while I figure out if it's worth fixing the stacker (I see one google search turns up a fixed price repair of $459, that's a bit steep in my opinion.

Found out that Perth car stereo shops (well two chains anyway) are useless gits who tried to tell me that the only AUX/ipod connection is an FM transmitter! Who would have thought that the dealer would be the cheapest option?

Just thought I would post an update, I ended up replacing the stacker unit. I was able to source one from Top Sound (http://www.topsound.com.au). Sonny was very helpful, actually said he can repair the stacker units, however by that time I had already destroyed mine during the CD extraction process :D So I just went with the new replacement unit. Installed it on Friday and all is working nicely, should keep the wife happy now she can play CDs again.

thanks sawaad for the update,

Can you post the cost of the replacement?
Did you get just the CD part replaced or a complete unit?

Does anyone else have experience with DIY repair on these stackers? The insides look very flimsy to me so I don't want to keep having to send the thing away for repair. Anyone got advice on brand/quality of CDRs that they use (or now don't use) to keep the stacker working ok? The problem CDR I pulled out of my stacker was snapped and definitely a cheap one, so am looking for advice on what others are doing with these.

Thanks, BM

Hi ICE_BM,

The stacker part was $460 inc postage to Canberra.

It was just the CD stacker unit, which I then installed. Pretty easy to install only took about 30mins (It helped that I had already taken the console apart once when I took the old broken stacker out, so I knew where everything was and the order to disassemble in. So if it was a first time I would allow 1-2hrs). Only tricky bit of the install was getting the stupid ribbon connector plugged into the circuit board of the stacker, no real trick to it just took a bit of patience and finesse.

I thought about repair, but once had a good look at it, it was way to complicated for me. Sonny from Top Sound did mention that he could repair them as well, not sure of the cost, but by this stage I had already well and truly destroyed mine getting the CDs out!
