Tim,

What was your decision on the metal and diameter used for a 3.0R with sc kit? Stainless or Mild Steel? Are both options available? Pros and Cons?

Also, what diameter plumbing piping do I need to plan for the rest of the exhaust system (including CATS) ?

On the extractors/headers for SC application

I wont be running anything different to the current version on my own car, the set I have fitted are staying there. The larger 44mm pipes took too much away at 3000 - 4000 range and offered a screaming topend - not sure if that is what you want. I will offer you (Mark) the 44mm set for $350 if you want to go that way.

I can come back to you on the cats and the rest of the system. I want to review the results from the latest customer here as consideration of sound levels, power gains, etc etc all come into the final decision on what I think is a good system

Food for thought, I had a BA Falcon customer 4.0 run 406rwhp through a 2.5" system a week ago ..................... I dont know how tho .........

Tim,

Thanks for the offer, but no. I enjoy too much the current torque in that range and to lose it now would be a step back in my build. I am limiting my top end to 6000 as the torque levels are enough for me now. Just want to tune it for optimum with a less restrictive extractor setup and a matching cat/muffler/centre/Y section.

I CANNOT TUNE THE TCU.

It is very difficult when the programming of the TCU reach a point where the TC wants to lockup and others points where the car wants to shift back and forth.

As the tranny gets old, this shifting becomes annoying. Its very difficult sometimes to minimise where the TCU wants to shift and sometimes where throttle usage becomes aggressive. I know this because I have an Auto myself and sometimes I just feel like ripping it out because I cannot tune it and wonder what Subaru was thinking. What use is the power button?????

So does that mean no gains with these Auto Extractors :? I'm lost now :? :? :? :? :?

Yes there are gains just like the manual. But auto's always complain of some areas where its at the crossing points of shifting. Mostly see this in the 5EAT.

This comment has got flat nothing to do with extractors, it was a temporary comment/discussion about tuning an automatic transmissions shift points for better torque management when a supercharger is fitted to engine.

Lib3.0LR - just know that extractors are for engines, they don't connect to the gearbox, you won't get confused anymore if you stick to that thought :)

Not to take away from the thread, but it was mentioned. I can delete the posting if others want to go ahead and clear it up too.

Have just completed a long weekend of significant driving distance, averaged 8.2 liters per 100km from every tankful. The driving included a lot of cruising and all overtakes were in 4th and revved to near 7000rpm pretty much.

Car is an absolute ROCKET and the fuel economy is GREAT too especially considering the huge power increase.

Going to be many more very impressed people with the Raptor headers, no problems, big power increase and still great fuel economy!

Overtaking in 4th at 7000rpm.... don't let the coppers see that post!

Because you are able to do this, I'm assuming the car pulls significantly harder in higher gears.... previously I've found anything higher than 3rd was pretty mediocre

sorry to get off topic... :?

i feel you notice AVCS "kick in" the most in 2nd and 3rd gear.
but i also find 4th gear great for a very quick  overtake on the highway at 110km/h (+/- %5)

just my two cents :)

My vehicle has extremely strong acceleration in 4th all the way. Sarge will have to find out some data and do some maths and a lot more to pin anything on me

REMEMBER - The Raptor headers have showed a 30 kw gain right at the end of the rpm range even without a retune, so YES its very well worth pulling the motor hard in 4th if you want to, lays on the big kill for overtaking big trucks up a hill etc
