macintosh sub bass problem

so ive got the stock 13sp setup in my 04 R-B lib. When i play CD's, the sub just goes nuts and rattles and vibrates due to the bass even at low levels (even when the bass is on -6 and treble on about +3).

This does not occur when im listening to the radio.
I have tried original and burnt CD's, same thing.

I cant turn up the volume so i have been listening to talk back in peak-hour...not very exciting

Could it be damaged?
any suggestions?

Hey Mate

i had the same issue at the moment, for a while now since i had the car. rattles when driving esp the passenger side door and the sub

its rather annoying. Took it to service at glen waverley, didn't help at all...will try subbie mentone to find the solution to it. Its quite an issue for Macintosh problem.

if you find any leads please let me know too, would love to see why?

from my understanding is either from your exhaust or something loose on the bass or speaker. Am not sure.

torn speaker trims? replaced speakers. issue went away. the sub was almost at the point of falling out.

the exhaust and torn speaker trims do sound like reasonable diagnosis' however i dont understand how / why it does not happen when listening to music on the radio.

haha its not your fault

your mac has been on your car for nearly 8-9 years of manufacture. Hence problem occur for mac is inevitable. i will ask around as well and let you know too.

mine didnt happen on the radio either... but then play the same song on the radio.. and from a CD... and the radio wont have any bass anyway.

both my sub and my front right passenger speakers blew. sounded like a loose screw vibrating on tin? almost like a buzzing sound? and no constant, worse during bassy parts?

if so its probably your speakers. highly doubt it would be exhaust.

replace them with a nice set of splits and something like the polk jullzy linked you to. easiest way to check if your sub is dead. have a look. and if you dont even feel like pulling the cover off, just unplug it and turn it up, and sit in the back. then listen to it reconnected.

thanks stewart i will definitely be checking in the coming days. I wouldnt mind upgrading with some speakers too....not sure if its worth doing with the standard macintosh though...

the prefacelift gen 4 does not have a stock amp does it?

also did you source from their website? i noticed there are some on ebay

mine are running of the stock mcintosh amp. so yes it does have one, though its not very good.

speakers go ok off of it too.

and no, i bought it from a shop. "audio indulgence" near newcastle. excellent installs. good prices. i work next door so that helps too.

I had that problem when my amp was fried... All speakers worked fine except the sub went crazy, could possibly be the amp?

One way to find out, stick your head under the passenger seat (Maybe roll it all the way back/forward first)

But yes, if your headunit says 'Mcintosh' at the top - you have an amplifier under the passenger seat.

Yep Stewie. Thats exactly what happened.

I will try to get it done and ask some gurus to help disconnect like that you have suggested to me.
