Can you give us some closer shots of your guard's profile?

I just took a whole bunch of shots for you, if there were any other angles you would like just let me know and ill try some more photos...

Thanks for the pics! Very subtle difference. Will have to compare to mine and see if it's worth doing myself when I'm up for my next set of tyres.

In your pics, it looks like it's not quite wide enough to cover the rim's width, just the tyre, so it looks like going 245 tyres may still be out of the question without major work.

Hey nick have you found a good h6 tuner in sydney yet? Just realised I live very close to you...if you happen to see a silver 3RB with xforce mufflers in our area that would be me! :D

Anyways, I'm still trying to find a good tuner in Sydney for the h6 with SI Drive. If you know one, do share mate. :)

Have you considered an XRT tune? Lots of good stories from H6 owners, and the tune on my 2.5i gave me great results.

Yeah I'm running the stock 215 tyres on there atm. I'm most likely going to make a move to 235/40 as the 245 width is technically illegal in NSW to the best of my knowledge.

I haven't done a whole heap of looking around for tuners to date. I'm waiting to get my full exhaust finished before I start organising a tune. I have only heard good things about XRT so I may give that a go. However if your willing to travel, which I am, MSR in Gosford sounds like our best proven bet so far (Anyone feel free to jump in and tell me someone closer :D ) I might also give Pulse Racing in Menai a go as well.

When getting a tune done, will I need to get a piggy back ECU unit? or can the standard ECU be modified at all? Ive been looking into Motec and Haltech piggy back units but not 100% sure if they are needed... Thoughts ?

Technically speaking, 225 is the widest you can legally go. The current model WRX and STi ships with 245, however, so unless you got nicked by a Subaru-savvy HWP officer, as long as your guards appear to actually cover the wheels, then they're not going to be any the wiser.

Extreme mods should probably consider going with a piggy-back ECU such as Haltech (which leaves common functions such as aircon and the like to the factory ECU), but the way they work is that they intercept and modify signals from the factory ECU instead of taking 100% control which some tuning purists believe is not as good as a full replacement ECU, however piggyback and replacement ECU's do provide extra features that are not necessarily available in the factory ECU such as an RS-232 connection for high-resolution logging, live-tuning, and extra inputs for things like temperature probes that may br drilled into a turbo model's intercooler to properly measure intake temps to adjust fuel accordingly.

That all said, for the most part you should be able to get away with just modifying the factory ECU's maps if your mods aren't too hard core, but I'm not a tuner, so get your final opinions on that from those in the trade such as Michael South.

Thanks for that Jeff! I honestly thought in NSW you were allowed an extra 25mm extra width on tyres ???

Anyway, I'm realistically only going to have a full exhaust system for the forseeable future so looks like i should be able to get away with just having the tuner modify the factory ECU then.

It's one level up from factory, so my 2.5i Gen4 can only have 18" rims with 225 rubber and 3.0R Gen4's can have up to 19" rims with 225 rubber (despite virtually identical chassis between the two). Current model WRX and STi's can go up to 19" with 255 rubber.

Honestly, if your mods are tasteful and aren't designed to attract attention, and you don't engage in the Saturday night doof-doof drag in your local capital, no-one's ever going to know.

Absolutely. I know my car's XRT tune could benefit from a better exhaust, but I hate the farty exhaust note NA cars tend to produce with bigger exhausts, so I'm leaving mine alone.

Yeah that is fair enough...

MSR CANNOT tune 07+ auto trans H6's so they are out.
atm Pulse are potentially going to be who I go to as the date I'm looking at for the tune I will be up for a service anyway.
iSpecB and I are also inquiring towards Phat's tuner so we will wait and see what they get back to us with aswell.
XRT is still on the radar at the moment, just going to keep going through all the various options for now and see what happens.

Excluding XRT, are there any other success story tuners for the H6 ?? very interested in hearing peoples thoughts

Nick, go to Phat's tuner, not Pulse.

PS pretty sure Insight is cheaper than Pulse anyway, Pulse quoted me $1,300 last year when I enquired

Yeah pulse quoted me $1,195. Ive sent off an email to insight motorsport so I'll see what they get back to me with. I'll probably get a service at the same time as the tune so maybe they can do me some type of deal for getting everything done at once. But we shall see what happens!

I've emailed Scott too so let's see where we go from here.

Looks like we are the only ones out there with my08 3.0NA looking for a tune?

UPDATE!!!

Very exciting news, after waiting about 6 or 7 weeks... my front and rear sway bars and Anti-Lift kit has finally arrived !!!
Don't need to go into details as to why it took so long but all that matters is they finally made it safe and sound haha!

Image

hopefully next week they will be going on and I'll be able to give further updates then. Also headers should be coming in late next week/early week after and then the real fun begins :D :D :D
