UPDATE: 04 JUN 2012

Touched base with David tonight and the gearbox reassembly is completed. Gets put back in the car tomorrow, then the valve body tuning begins.

If all goes well, I should have some good news by the end of this week. :)

It's a case of blind faith.... or ....naive stupidity! I will go with blind faith for now relying on the skills and knowledge of a professional.

Yes, but a slow roasted one.

I think Michael (PhatGT) has done a couple. Not sure for who, but he was chasing down the Valve Bodies ex-USA about a year ago and I understood at the time he was actually in the middle of a rebuild for someone. Don't know the details. Ask him!

Mark the valve body tuning, what is that going to do exactly? It's not the same as the TCU tuning so you can't change shift points can you?

Not yet! The valve body hard tuning is a trial and error stage but with a lot professional knowledge and experience thrown in to the mix. This is his first Subaru but he has done other Jatco JR507E boxes from Nissans using tghe hard tuning method. So, I am not expecting the car back until end of the week, but he did say to call him again today..... :D

David has done this before and is going to try this for the Subaru. Should get an indication later today if it is working. He inserts differing values of resistors in line with the relays in the valve body to "fool" the TCU into thinking it is time to shift. That is all he told me, so now we wait to see if it works.

Should that fail, then the backup plan is to follow the tuning lead provided by Tradewind from the Legacy GT forum to modify the Requested Torque and Throttle Position maps. But that will be a Springy Motors tune if that is the case.

The Hard tune is my starting preference as the shift points can be modified, where ECU map tunes cannot change the shift points as far as I know, but could be wrong.....
