Remove external door handle

Postby psy » Sun May 20, 2012 9:54 am

Two questions...

Firstly can anyone give some pointers on how to remove the external door handle?
Some turd has broken the clip when attempting to break into my car.

Have had a quick look and appears that part of the handle is obscured by the window glass?

Secondly, should the drivers door lock, lock and unlock ALL doors? Mines only doing the drivers side door, so am wondering if more damage has been done than just the cosmetic damage to the door?

Thanks guys.

The lock button (by the internal door opener) only does the drivers door. The "Lock/Unlock" switch by the window switches does all 4 doors, plus the tailgate on wagons.

I think he is referring to whether or not it locks/unlocks all doors or just drivers door by putting the key in the barrel and locking/unlocking. Ie if your key has run out of battery and you need to enter the car old school style.

to remove it im fairly certain you have to remove the door trim so that you can unscrew the handle assembly from the inside

same happended to mine.
remove the internal door trim, there's a 10mm bolt at the back of the handle that secures the lock barrel to the door, remove this and you should be able to pull the door handle up and out. I'll be doing this on the weekend and i'll try and post some pics.

locking the door with the key will not lock all the doors, well it doesn't on mine, absolute pain in the a**

This made me go outside and try mine. Only the drivers door locks and unlocks! You learn something new every day!

Thanks Suasmor (and others!).

I managed to locate a handle at the wreckers for $55 (Docklands want $190) but the wreckers managed to break the clips on the handle when removing it from the donor car, so I'm back to hunting for a s/hand handle.

They're also rear. I need front drivers which has cutout for lock barrel. Thanks anyway.
