chaotic2050 wrote:You might be stretching it for no drone at 100 with a 5th gear only, but with 6th you should be fine. Is yours 3" all the way through including Y-pipe? If you had the Xforce/TCP centre you would be struggling to not get freeway drone.
I get drone when I'm doing 60 in 3rd up a hill....but when you are in 3rd you tend to enjoy that
Otherwise mine is fine, but that's the 2.25" Y-pipe and 16x8 centre muffler which helps a hell of a lot.

Interesting that this guy basically forced you to get 2nd cat put back in? Must have had some trouble in the past or something with people dobbing him in if they got fined?

Let's see how this system goes. It's a bit of trial and error but I've not used any of the cheap no name components in the exhaust build.

The second cat was mentioned by quite a few people I spoke to, as the EPA and police are more inclined to defect you if upon inspection the second cat is noticed as missing. Previously not as rigorously checked but now all the rage when checks are conducted and enforcement have been educated at checking for the missing cat.

The second cat is also useful in getting the noise down, even if only slightly and I reckon I'd need all the help I could get.

I've also not used a traditional resonator/hotdog in the mid pipe. Instead, I've got a Magnaflow straight through muffler with considerably more packing than a standard hotdog to again further reduce noise and drone.

And finally a proven muffler in the Magnaflow 14 inch oval muffler.

The pipework consists of a 3 inch mid pipe with 2.5 inch Y pipe in stainless. Stainless I've been told is possibly less likely to drone. Debatable, I know, but it's still a good material and I prefer it to mild steel.

So not sure how this all goes. Will drive around for the next few weeks and then make a judgement call. It should mellow a little.

This exhaust stuff is a bit hit and miss and I'm just putting up another option that I considered, in theory should give me that gains I want, and with the quality components and build, might provide a good overall result. Let's see. You'll have to come past and listen, drive it and let me know what you think.

Again it's a bit of an experiment and I've tried something different for the benefit of the forum community.

Hand clap Bruce and well done.
I have always been a fan of a custom made exhaust system, as then you get to specify exactly what you want, and there is no shortage of talent here in Oz when it comes to crafting an exhaust. Kudos for stainless steel they look beautiful and sounds especially mint. Great work and fantastic look.

This is the muffler I've got.

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shop ... in&id=9947

Got to say they originally showed me a slightly bigger muffler but when it came time to install I got a call to say my sway bars were posing a problem and the pipe bends would be really tight and possibly not ideal so a slightly smaller version was recommended and I agreed to its installation.

Yeah should be interesting. If you're in the area I'll be at Edge on Saturday so pop around and you can check it out. I think that's pretty close to your place..
