Recommended Fuel Pump for MY06 Liberty GT Tuned by STi

Postby -=HaZ=- » Wed May 30, 2012 8:11 pm

Guys,

Car went to Chip Torque today where we intended to install a Walbro 255L Fuel Pump and dyno tune the car. Straight forward or so I thought until I got a call from the mechanic on site to say the Walbro pump they had sourced does not fit my car. I wasn't there, however they claim that the Walbro does not fit the standard cradle, and the modifications needed to fit the Walbro would mean cutting the plastic brackets etc, which would mean the pump would not be secured properly. The mod would mean I would not be able to revert back to a standard pump because the mods required would mean the cradle would be permanently damaged.

They weren't comfortable going ahead with this so have delayed the tune until they can figure something out.

Does anyone have any insight to this problem?? Is the STi fuel pump cradle different to the standard Liberty GT?

What mods if any need to be made and what are the differences in the cradle and 0-ring etc....

I have seen plenty of posts here stating they have used a Walbro Fuel pump, is there a specific model? Any advice you could provide would be great as I have no previous experience in this particular matter.

Speak to JZNTME, the AVO fuel pump he is selling (to me so don't bother  ) comes with it's own cradle so no modification needs to be made.
You will find most others (WALBRO/SARD etc) need modification to fit.

Comes with it's own housing

That pic doesn't show the assembly(housing), I assume you mean its the complete cradle etc to replace the OEM cradle and pickup etc?

Yes sorry cradle whatever. TL;DR that pump is a direct fit no modification necessary. Hence the price.

Thanks appreciate it. I will contact AVO Turbo tomorrow and advise Chip Torque of the solution. :D

Just an update to this thread. That particular pump and assembly is now been superseded. The website is out of date and the item currently listed there has been replaced with a 265L/HR pump and upper cradle assembly, which is now allot cheaper at $352.

I have purchased one which will be fitted by Chip Torque on Wednesday.

Sard make a great fuel pump upgrade for the Liberty as they fit properly!

There are other options out there, but there have been know fitment issues with other brands over the years.
