Help - Fumes in car

Postby Skwish » Mon Oct 09, 2006 6:45 pm

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have noticed in the last month that when i have a window down or the sunroof open and I put my foot down the cabin fills with exhaust fumes. If I have the windows up and the aircon on I cannot smell it. I was doing 100kph with the sunroof tilted aircon on and all windows up and after overtaking a car the fumes were very strong. I figure there may be a leak in the engine bay somewhere.

I have had the car on a hoist and they blocked the pipes briefly and there was no noticeable leak.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thats the best thing to do, make them fix it, they will try and make excuses saying they cant notice anything and your just imagining things, dont leave until they conceed there is something there, i am having a subtle noise looked into by subaru australia.

The local subaru service manager tried to tell us it was normal so we said go and get another 3r spec b and prove it, they got the 3r spec b and indeed my car had a noise their car didnt.

its a subtle noise when compressing and getting off the clutch i noticed it the other week in the heat and then got i checked out today when i went to get my brakes replaced, they took it for a drive and dont believe there is cause for concern, but it has been noted and subaru are looking into it for me.

Hi Skwish,

I too, on most occasions (not all), after driving or after starting the car, I can smell that awful carbon monoxide gas smell (you know, the smelly fart smell). I have kinda just brushed it off, but might now give Subaru a call...

Yeah, I wouldnt be concerned if i could smell it only when i was stationary but there should be no way it gets in at hwy speeds as it all should be going out the back.

G'day Phat and Phil,

So it's normal? Really? I didn't experience this with my previous car. Is this something that happens with the Liberty? But it does ease my worries a bit to hear it's normal, from you guys.

Thanks! Btw, my name's Jason. :D

Nice to meet you all.

The only pic I have is the one on my avatar.

Will post up some pics soon. :)
