Hi cvas,

Welcome to what is an awsome community (I'm pretty new here myself).

My understanding is that from 2004 til halfway through 2007 the cars were the same (MY 05 06 07), and were then facelifted with a few changes (MY 08 09, and maybe 10). Then a whole new car was bought out, the dog ugly gen v liberty. Does this make sense?

So yeah, it will work with your car. Mine comes tommorow (YAY!). Dam I hope I can fit the thing :read: :russian_roulette: :help:

Thanks Fluf
I have been reading a few topics in this forum. Everyone is so knowledgable. It's a great source of info and I love how no one seems to bite each others head off over questions (like I see in many other forums...)

Based on what I want (charging iphone/ipod and HU/steering button control compatible) I think the xcarlink may be the way to go. I might even spoil myself with the bluetooth kit!
Would you rate this as a fair easy install? I have had a look at some posts about removing the head unit and it seems fairly straight forward... The handbrake boot being the hardest part? Any advice of placement of the bluetooth kit hardware?

Thanks

My kit turns up tommorow so I will let you know. I feel REALLY unsure about installing it but will just give it a shot and drive to an installer if I f**k something...

Yeah I will take some picks. Some of me breaking stuff, and some of my screaming at aformentioned stuff being broken

No in all seriousness, I'll take note of what I find hard and report back for others to benifit from/laugh at (seriously, he couldnt even do THAT??!?!?)

Didn't go BT as it's my wifes car *sniff* (i'm stuck in a non turbo forester...) and she doesn't answer her phone when she's NOT in the car, most of the time. I suggested it to her and she simply said "what would I want to do THAT for??"

nuff said

**Edit**

Anyone here happy for me to have their phone number on hand incase the proverbial hits the cieling?? PM if you can please :)

I would be careful with this - I haven't seen anyone with an MY07 try this or any of the other similar ipod interfaces on a McIntosh head unit. There's a reasonable risk it may not be compatible.

Also apparently the bluetooth module isn't too crash hot in terms of sound quality; you may be better off with a Parrot kit or other reasonable quality handsfree kit.

I might hold off on the xcarlink if thats the case. Are there any other kits that you would reccomend for MY07?
cheers

Sadly not; I'm not aware of any kits definitely compatible with MY07:

I'd consider two options:

1. Advertise a second-hand xcarlink unit as an expression of interest - see if anyone is interested in buying yours if it doesn't work for you. If it does work for you, then be happy that you've tried something new for the community

2. Take a punt on the Advanced Ice unit listed here. May not work with steering wheel controls and may not work with MY07, but who knows. I was highly surprised to see it works on a MY08 HU.

Oh yeah I did forget that there are (apparently) a few different macintosh head units in the same series or car. I rekon it would work, but call sydney installers first and hopefully they can give you the skinny. It is a clarion unit for a suzuki that fits into the back of our head units.

Good luck mate, hopefully between the 2 of us we can get them both installed and working!

It's a pity we're not all closer - we could make a day of it and wreck all of our cars in one convenient location!

I'll be doing mine in a couple of Sundays or so when I have some spare time. Unless it pours with rain on a Saturday in the meantime in which case I'll give it a go then.

We can all take pics and do the "Four Yorkshiremen" thing and brag about who made the biggest balls up.

cheers,

bj
