Just an update and a thank you.

I had the STI Short shift assembly fitted today and couldn't be happier! The shift is now positive and very direct. Still running the OEM bushes that came with the STI shifter and it has the exact feel I was hoping for.

A big thanks to all that commented and especially Rob (666) who confirmed that the STI shifter would fit my 2005 model. Can see a few more mods coming on!

It was little more than I hoped for but the end result is great, so I can live with it. If I had just had the bushings replaced by the Subaru dealer, in the original lever it was going to be over $500 anyway.

STI Shifter $450 (Inc shipping from Japan)
STI Gear Knob $150 (Inc shipping from Japan)
Fitting $150
Bushes $35 x 4
Total $890

Jesus, I'd love to do this mod, but can't justify spending the money on it while it still works. Just took my 05 Spec B in for 100k and the only thing they said was worn was the lifetime fuel filter, asked for $200, I said no thankyou...

Hope fully something breaks so I can get the short shifter

Sounds like false economy to me. If there's something wrong with it, replace it.

I thought 200 for a fuel filter was a lot but apparently not. Will get it done this wk. Was curious why a lifelong filter needed replacing too
