Introduce yourself

New GT SpecB

Postby N8Bain » Thu May 10, 2012 9:28 pm

Hello people, I’ve been looking at this forum on and off for a few years and joined a couple of months ago so I thought it was about time I introduced myself.

Name: Nate

Age: 23

Ride: MY08 GT Spec B 6MT Charcoal Wagon

Location: Wollongong, NSW

Mods:
iPod/iPhone auxiliary jack
New number plate style and content (along with altrex protectors)
Genuine Subaru cargo liner/mat
Ultrex CF Grill
Ultrex front lip
Dark smoked Valenti tail lights
LED upgrade: Reverse lights, Parkers, Number plate lights, Map lights, Dome Light and Cargo Light

Plans:
19" black wheels - not sure of shape yet
Exhaust and tune

After working for during my first university holidays about 3 years ago I went out and bought this:

It was a 2001 model with 220 000 km’s on the clock and in pretty good condition. I didn’t do any mods apart from the wheels and some basic audio stuff. It was a great car which I was sad to see go when I sold it just last week. So many great camping, surfing and snow trips with it.

But that sadness didn't last long because I'd already bought this a few weeks ago over the Easter weekend:

I had been looking for months, ever since I graduated and began work. I really wanted black, but then this one came up just 5 minutes up the road and I couldn’t wait any longer. It really is the nicest looking Subaru model built to date in my opinion. It came completely stock and runs great.

So far I’ve replaced the ugly yellow plates with some custom white on black ones and had a cord run through to the stock head unit so I can play music from my iPod/iPhone – the radio was starting to bore me. I also tend to throw a lot of wet/dirty gear in the back so i was looking for a rubber mat to go in the cargo area. I nearly bought a non- genuine one off eBay cos i couldnt find any real ones, but at the last minute i thought I'd check with my local subaru dealer. Turns out a genuine one was cheaper anyway! Also ordered some club liberty stickers from Ric the other day.

I plan on doing a lot more when I have the cash, next on the cards is a Zerosports style grill once the cheque for the old car clears (Anyone with a spare one, I’ll be keen to take it of your hands for a nice price).

That’s about all for the moment, I hope to keep this updated so I have a record of what I’ve done to the car and when, etc.

Cheers Guys.

Welcome Nate,

Good pickup on the 6MT wagon. Not too many around and they go pretty quick when they come up for sale.

Cheers

Car looks in very good nick! Both of them infact haha!

Am looking at upgrading my 2.5i to a GT-B if I can pull my finger out and get the ball rolling so to speak.

If you don't mind me asking what price did you pay and how many kms?
(Can PM if preferred)

Just trying to get a gauge of what I should be paying.

Enjoy the forums, endless pages of inspiration!

Thanks guys, I’m sure I’ll enjoy my time on the forums, my bank account on the other hand…

Bezzza – I’d just spent the whole day washing and detailing them both so that’s why there nice and shiny in these pics. Mine had 70k on the clock and cost me $30k. It is in immaculate condition - I asked the guy where he got it detailed, and he said he washed it himself, inside and out once a week, leather treatment once a month, etc, etc. So far I’ve kept it up.

Also, here’s some photos of the new plates. I made up some little brackets so that the front one sits higher up and doesn’t hang over the lower part of the bumper.

My Ultrex front lip and grill arrived during the week and I just installed them last night, pics to follow.

Overall I'm pretty happy, shipping only took a week to get here from Perth. The parts themselves fit pretty well too.

The bottom edge of the grill sits a little high but isn't really noticeable - I'm just picky with that sort of thing.

The lip went on great too, there was some fitting holes on it which I wasn't quite sure where they were supposed to match up. I just used the majority of the existing holes and then added drilled several more of my own and used some tek-screws. By the time i was finished it sat flush the whole way round. Plenty of bolts, washers and nuts were supplied from Ultrex too.

I might start up a thread in the mods section sooon...
