Rotas...tell me everything

I'm having an argument with my brother over Rota wheels - I'm for them, he's against.

His arguments:

- Cast instead of forged
- Made in Philippines not Japan

= poor quality.

I think this is pretty piss poor so I'm asking anyone who either owns them or has any experience with them to weigh in their opinion here.

I myself am attracted to the design, mostly of the G Forces (would LOVE to be able to afford Conoisseurs but it just ain't happening, plus they're long out of production ) and significantly, the price.

Facory rims are all cast.
and they meet ADR's so they must be good quality.

forged wheels are stronger.
but not needed for road cars.

My mate had them on his '11 WRX one rim cracked twice on the inside with only normal driving.

Plus theyre heavier. And personally I dont like the fact they are blatant rip offs.

Had a quick read through the JDMST threads; f**k me they're an angry bunch

how stiff and low were the coilovers....
added to minimal sidewall flex.

Sadly can't justify forking out $3800 for rims on my current salary

When you consider the amount of people who buy Rota wheels you really don't hear that many problems... You can't expect much from replica wheels, but if they're not going to just fall off your car.

How's it irrelevant?
if you take away any cushioning from other components you're putting much more stress on the rim.

combine that with a cast-alloy rim that will crack (instead of just deforming like a steel rim would) and you'll get failures.
How wide they are and what offset will also affect how much stress you're putting on them too
especially with +48 and +55 offsets you've got a lot of wheel hanging off the inside of the hub. making it easier again to bust the inside lip area

Do a search. There was a thread up not long ago that had a write up on a guy with a R35. got somw rota rims and flooged them at the track all day. He put them in a x ray and didnt find a fault with them.

Sounds like rota promo to me, why would someone who bought an R35 put rota rims on it, surely he could afford genuine rims not replicas!
