Gears slipping in 06 3.0R b spec

My 06 subaru liberty 3.0R b spec does not engage gears and they are slipping. It is a manual transmission.
I have had a oil leak problem (the oil filter was damaged by a rock) and i have replaced the filter. The car worked fine until about 30 minutes of driving. I am wondering why my gears are slipping and not engaging.
I think some of the oil has got onto the clutch plate causing it to slip but how do i get the oil off ? Would i have to take the transmission apart ?

seems weird that a busted oil filter that's at the front of the engine would cause oil to be on the clutch at the rear of the engine?
how many km's has it done? clutch could just be fugged anyway.

but check the clutch fluid, fluid line and slave-cylinder operation to make sure that the clutch is actually operating correctly

The car has done 92000kms. When the oil filter was damaged oil splattered up into the engine and it was all over the place :\
clutch fluid is full

i guess it could have run down through the clutch fork boot or inspection cover.
As for getting it off.... not sure. degreaser? but you'd want to be confident that there is a drain/ lower inspection cover in the bellhousing..

There is no weird noises when i push the clutch down and it still has the exact same feel to it.

Is there a burning oil type smell when you slip the clutch?

At 92,000 klms the clutch should still be OK but if it has been driven hard it may be on the way out. Are you the original owner?

Another test is to find a steep hill, get it up to 3rd gear and with the clutch full out rev it hard, if the revs rise but speed doesn't the clutch is definitely slipping and needs replacing. Whether it's worn out or contaminated with oil it needs replacing as there is no way you can get oil off the clutch friction material once it's on there.

there was a burning type smell but now when i start the car up and try to change gears there isnt.
i am the second owner, the previous owner was an old man who loves libertys and i dont think he was thrashing the car.

I'd hope he was thrashing it. Ez30 loves a solid thrashing from day one or they use oil.

Clutch probably gone. Unlikely to be oil on surface, it would just burn off. If it wont declutxh and get into gear chances ate the slave cyl is leaking, the clutch is worn to nothing, the clutch fork has somehow uncoupled from the throw out bearing. Get someone to declutch it while you look, or vice versa. Put under max torque in 3rd up a hill and see if the revs flare.

You mean to say that in gear with the engine on and the clutch out it doesn't move?

You may have done an input shaft or more likely the pressure plate has completely failed. Either way you need to get the car to a mechanic.

Where are you? (i.e. what city).

Be aware, the clutch, and the gearbox are two seperate units. Any "slipping" is probably in the clutch, not the gearbox.

Seems like the motor suffered a major loss of oil ............ or was it a liter or more of oil missing?

If major oil loss refer to possiblities at the top of the forum about engine carnage, could that be next for your car?

Not to be overly scaring you but this kind of thing (engine oil loss in 3.0) can turn into bigger deal if used for a moment too long with the wrong oil level
