To give Darren credit, he honestly can't be expected to know EVERY car that these will go into, with the tiny little changes etc on every new model of every type car.

Sorry - I do agree with the above comment,

I am merely pointing out that the product is advertised to work on ALL 98 models onwards and so there is a responsibility as a manufacturer to test the product on new models to ensure continuity or change in advertised suitable vehicles - Not ask your potential customers technical questions they should not be expected to know, and hope they do your leg work

Boxer: I have spoken to some friends in the industry and it seems you're correct, Subaru seemed to have implemented CAN on their ECUs sometime in 2007. This means that the old OBD-II protocol they used (ISO 14230), has been changed to CAN. I'm also told that SSM II still works on these cars though, which would mean that the ECUDatascan will work. Can you check the OBD-II connector on your car and tell me which pins are still on the connector? NRG Automotive here in Sydney has recently starting selling ECUDatascans, so I'll ask the guys over there tomorrow if they have any similar cars that they can test one on.


From googling the Greddy Informeter, it seems as though it doesn't use SSM II, it uses ISO instead, which would explain why it didn't work on your car.

Also, the CAN change has affected people's ability to reflash their ECUs, which this doesn't do.

Boxer: I apologise for not knowing the answers to all of your questions. I make these displays in my spare time, this isn't my full time job.

As a result I don't have the resources and time to be able to go out and extensively test the display on every Subaru in the market to build a comprehensive list of what it will work with, therefore (although it isn't expected) I do rely on customers and friends helping me out in these situations.

I have had many people in the past buy a datascan knowing that they will get a full refund if it doesn't work on their car. For the record, I am yet to get one returned because of this.

The best information I have for you at this stage is to check the OBD-II connector of your car. If pin 7 is there, there is a good chance it will work. If pin 7 isn't there, then it won't.

ECUDatascan seem to be in UK , according to tracert on the web site...Can we buy these things directly here, and $?

jp928: You're doing too much homework! The displays are made and sold in Australia (Sydney to be exact). The site is hosted over there. They're $300 each plus postage. Usually the OBD-II socket is near the bonnet release lever under the dash.

I found the socket on the OB. Squinting carefully at it via a mirror on a telescopic stick, it has pin 7 visible, so should work with ECUDatascan. Note that the diagram above does not specify which side of the connector its showing - back (where wires go in) or front (where plug goes in to it). On my connector I could just make out tiny numbers 1 and 8 at the ends, so I knew what I was looking at. Ordering one today.

That diagram is looking front on with the female connector, or in other words looking straight at the one on your car towards the front, where the Datascan wil plug into.

Are you thinking of making any different displays for this unit?

It may be just me but the green just looks a bit old and dated unlike newer units that can have readily changeable colours.

Is there any chance of updating the unit still with the same software specs and features, just styled different, or is this totally out of the question?

Yeah I am currently researching all the stuff i'll need to change the LCD screen for a graphics module. Since i do all this in my spare time I won't have anything ready for months and months though.

I got my ecudatascan , its installed and working in a few seconds. Readability could be better in sunshine, sampling seems a bit fast, other than that, so far so good.
