Aggressive fitment... liberty gt 06

Postby Bee » Mon Apr 23, 2012 4:24 pm

Hi Guys,

I want to get some wheels fitted and after the real "aggressive" look.
I think this issue has been discussed before. From what i can see though, everyone runs an 18inch rim, any idea if i would have issues running a 19inch rim?

Also what's the max or best tyre width/height and rim offset i could go to get that look without major fender work and scrubbing issues? ( I dont mind rolling the guards).

Could i run a 19x9 or 9.5 rim, with say 235/45 or 40 tyres.. etc?

Thanks in advance.
Bee.

plenty of us run 19s no issues

by "aggressive" are you just talking about poke or stance or stretched tyres and being hellaflush YO! ??
post some pics of what you want...

check out legacygt.com all the US boys typically go for more aggressive setups than we do
good guide from there on what will/wont fit;
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... -4426.html

also just play around with wheel sizing calculators to see what difference itll make

and

and last but not least....search button!

I reckon the issue is mostly width, not so much everything else. As long as your overall diameter with the 19" rim is appropriately compensated for by a lower profile tyre, you should be fine with the overall height, so that just leaves sorting out a suitable width.

IMO an 8.5" rim and 235 rubber (combo'ed together or not) is about the widest you can go without having to start considering rolling and/or flaring.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

im 18x8.5 +44 245/40/18 40mm lower than stock.

wouldnt go anything bigger than that without flaring.

I have already rolled the guards and am getting my fenders reshaped and resprayed to keep the wheels in line with the fender . bumping the front guards out 10-15mm.

hi bee,

width is one factor for aggressive fitment.

you havent even mentioned offset which is probably the biggest factor when it comes to aggressive fitment...

Thanks for the replies guys,

Bates91, Yes by aggressive i mean the stretched tyre and being hellaflush!, where the rim is wider than the car by a little and the tyres stretches over, but tucks in nicely into the guard.

Here some pics on a previous topic about this which are pretty similar to what i am after...

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=9253

I have been through that link on Legacy GT too, thanks, was just wondering why all these guys who want the aggressive look only run 18s...

HyRax, sweet that makes sense, 235 rubber is most likely what i want to run. I am undecided as to whether i will run an 8.5 or go larger and do a 9.5 rim as i am waiting to see what Rotiform in the US has available.

Renshaw, you got any pics?

Blacktop i havent mentioned anything on offsets as i dont know too much about it to be honest, from what i can see in that link on legacy GT though the offsets would need to be:

8.5" (+45mm to +48mm offset, +45) *will need to roll the fenders if tires are wider than 255
9.0" (+43mm to +45mm offset, +43) *will need to roll the fenders if tires are wider than 255
9.5" (+38mm to +40mm offset, +38) *will need to roll the fenders if tires are wider than 255

will all of these give that aggressive look?

Well, here's a pic of my car with 8.5" rims with 225/45/18 rubber (stock height, stock camber). As you can see, they're pretty flush with the bodywork and the rims technically do stick out a little at the front but fit nicely on the rear. There are some more pics in my profile.

You can see in my pic that the stretch with 225 on these rims is not too bad, but I'd prefer it to be less stretched, so next set of tyres I get will be 235 as there's still heaps of room on the inside of the wheel and it's only the outside that is going to potentially present problems if I go any wider. I've got a colleague who has the same wheels in 245 which looks properly vertically straight with the rim, but I definitely cannot fit 245 without flaring the guards for an extra 10-15mm. I've got some comparative pics I took while test fitting his wheels on my car which I can post up later.

In general, yes. The aggressive look to me means having a 225 or greater tyre with 8" or wider wheel as close to the edge of the bodywork as possible without sticking out (much?). I personally think straight sidewalls look better and add more to the aggression than stretched sidewalls, but it's going to boil down to personal preference, really. Go with what works for you.

Can I ask where you sourced STI rims that are 8.5" wide??

You can't. Those are HyperBlack Rota Gravels with eBay STi stickers over the Rota caps. 8)

I have 19x8.5 +35 with 235/35/19 and it fits perfectly for my liking. No tyre stretch though if you are into that.
Seems to be fine without guard rolling on Tein s-techs but when I go coil overs an the front comes down a little more I'll be rolling the guards.
If I went 245 with that offset I'd definitely be up for some guard work.

No pics right now though.

[EDIT] Due to my retardo rim measurement skills I now find out I actually have 7.5 +45 with 235s

Hyrax - Thanks alot for all that info.
Your car looks pretty sweet in the pics. I do prefer a stretched tyre that tucks into the guard so i will be attempting to get that look.

Rooby what you are running sounds perfect!, i will be attempting to run 245s.
If you do happen to get some pics please post them.

I will post up some pics and the specs of what i decided with as soon as its completed
Cheers guys,
Bee

Why not get a set of wheels and tyres that fit correctly and improve the way the car performs? Superficial mods are only fun for a while.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.
