Rain sensing wipers

Postby dr20t » Wed Apr 18, 2012 4:31 pm

Anyone attempted this mod?

The sensor itself shouldn't be too hard to source / mount but what about the wiring side of things?

Intereted to hear people's thoughts on whether it's worth it as well. Just another convenience which wouldn't go astray i reckon.

Cheers

with the almost infinitely variable intermittent wipers that these things have already, it it really worth it..?

In saying that, it "should" only require the sensor and it's power wiring to tell the "mist" mode to operate every time it senses enough water.

In my experience I've usually been able to work out for myself when it has started or stopped raining :D

It would be an interesting DIY project, just to learn about how things work. In terms of time spent versus actual benefit, very very minimal IMO.

I had them on my 306, and really missed them when the sensor stopped working.

Convenient and aided in my laziness ;)

My last car, a BMW, had this feature and it really was a waste of time when the rain was soft - they would flick either too much or not enough. I think this was because it would only wipe when the sensor's vision was blocked, not when your vision was. I found the manual operation much easier.

One thing I do miss, though, is the auto headlight function - that's a feature I would like to have back.

cheers,

bj

Just leave your lights on all the time, then they go auto when you turn your car on and off. Problem solved.

I miss being able to control my windows with the car key - and at all with the ignition off.

the rain sensing wipers & light sensing lights on my GEN 5 are SH1T.

just more unnecessary complication & money for the stealerships when something goes wrong.

PS i wish i had a temp guage!!

An EcuDataScan gives you a real temp guage, but I think you've missed out on the group buy.
