SpecB or not a SpecB -telling the difference

I'm in the market for a 3.0 SpecB. While looking through carsales and the like, I've picked up times where a car is described as a SpecB when clearly it isn't and other times when I'm left thinking that the car I'm looking at is, in fact, a SpecB even though it's not described as one.

So, my question is, how can I tell for sure that what I'm looking at is a SpecB and not just a straight 3.0 with some after market cosmetic additions?

Black leather, 18inch alloys, bilstein suspension

3.0r have ivory leather and 17s

Does the 3.0R get the 6 speed or is it only the Spec.B 3.0 in prefacelift?

Of course if you are looking at auto's that doesn't help I guess.

Pre facelift I'm pretty sure it was only the spec b which got the 6 speed

the front bumper is different on both post and pre facelift and they have the chrome strip on top of the side skirt. the give away is 18" wheels instead of 17"

Only the SpecB in pre-facelift.

The 3.0R and the 3.0R-B (spec b) both have the same front bumper in the pre-facelift.

+1, this is the easiest way to tell on a Pre Face lift (MY04-MY06) Liberty.

So black leather was never an option offered in the non-SpecB?

Although I appreciate that the rims can give it away, they can be replaced easily enough whereas upholstery is a little more difficult, as is a Macintosh radio unit.

With the Bilstein suspension, is there an easy way to tell that without having to crawl around too much?

In the 06 model, the 3.0 R spec B came with black leather and the 3.0 R came with ivory leather. There were no options.

Yep, look for the bright yellow struts (or mud/dust-covered yellow which may be the case) behind the front wheels :wink:

Thanks for your help, guys - it helped a lot.

Had a look at one today and was able to call Subaru and confirm things with them, too, which sorted things out once and for all.
