2007 Liberty GT-B Navigation Issues...

Postby Declan » Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:19 pm

Hi,

I'm currently having some issues with the navigation unit in a 2007 Liberty GT-B. The original navigation disc was V13 but it was damaged and has since been lost. I've attempted to get V17 C1 maps working but haven't had any luck. I've tried two different download links one was for a Toyota / Lexus but was suppose to work and the other one was from a thread in this forum. I've burned the ISO images on low speed (2x) to Sony DVD-R's. When I turn the nav on it says "wait whilst the system updates" (regardless of whether there is a maps disc in there or not). It then changes to say "Error: System unable to access the program. Please insert proper disc", once again, this doesn't change if there is a disc in there or not. I've recently changed the battery so not sure if that may have something to do with it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to get a V13 download and load that disc in first? Use different discs?

I've tried resetting the nav by pushing the button on the DVD loader but that didn't work either.

Yes, you need a copy of the original disk to boot the system up, then you can insert later map disks.

It would help if you mentioned which city you are in, or filled in the "Location" field in your profile. :D

In due time. For now I have a perfectly good car and I only have to pay for general maintenance so i'm not exactly in a rush. I reckon 2-5 months depending on what deals come up.

Gave it a quick detail today, it would really benefit from a light polish and a good wax but I'm just borrowing the car off a friend so might not do that (although i'm sure he would appreciate it).

Here are a couple of quick iPhone pics.

So it turns out that the version 13 disc is actually inside of the DVD drive but wont come out. Could be why the V17 disc/s didn't work as well. I'm going to try taking it apart tomorrow, anyone else had similar issues?

So the dvd is stuck? If you're able to put v17 in, then it's not stuck. It's just a matter of not being able to load the software on v17 (most likely for a different car).

Sounds like you need to load v13 so it loads the software, and then use v17 only for map data.

So the v13 disc was in the back of the dash. It was badly scratched but I used it to download the software then inserted the burnt maps disc and it works a treat!!!!

I did however find a green plug in the back of the dash that was unplugged. I plugged it in when on "ON" (no ignition) and the radiator fan kept coming on and off do I unplugged it. Any ideas what this is for and I'd it should in fact be plugged in?

Leave it unplugged. Plugging it enables the "upgrade firmware" mode in the ECU. It turns the radiator fans on to make you aware it is plugged in (and stop you leaving it plugged in unintentionally).

Champion! Thanks Ric.

So in my garage I installed the V13 disc then the burnt v17 disc and it worked. It wouldn't respond when I hit address which was weird but the map was somewhere in Sydney so I figured it had no reception and put the dash back together. When I stated the car and moved it outside to test the nav. It came up with the error of "the disc inserted is not a map disc". Bizarre! Any ideas?

there is also another plug like this in the other side and you have to plug them both when you want to flash your ECU
