Rear Demister working or not

Postby Lib 3.0LR » Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:19 pm

Hi Guys. Just wondering if there is any other way to check if your rear demister is working (Wagon) I know I can wait for the windows to fog up, but any other way :?: I just had the car re-tinted and I am just curious if it’s working right. I don’t want to find out weeks down the track and start arguing with the guy.

A multimetre would probably be your best bet I would think.
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Get one your kids to lick the terminal while you flick the switch……. Allot easier than using a multimeter cause you get instant audio (scream) confirmation if it works…..

why do you think it would not work?
all the cutting is (should be) done outside the car.
then it's just glued on and shrunk to size

Put your multimeter on volts, switch it on and check you have 12V (approx).

But...

If they pulled off old tint and by some remote chance broke all the elements, voltage test won't easily tell that. Well it will - if it's working the voltage will be lower than open circuit. If you can tell the difference

You can make sure by measuring the resistance of the element

So turn off the demister, check that it's definitely off by checking for volts again or if the demister is for sure also the radio antenna, unplug one of the connectors that attaches to the element (carefully) then change your multimeter to resistance and check measure across the element. If it is completely stuffed you will get infinite or Megaohms. if it's mostly intact it will be quite low, less than 100 ohms.

Don't have the Multimeter on resistance when you put the probes on something that's live, it will probably go phut!

Luck,
AL.
