How do i know what will fit?!

Postby marcosis » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:23 am

Hey guys,

This might be a stupid question, but hey... you know what they say, there is no stupid questions, only stupid people!

I want to know basically what will fit my 2006 Liberty 2.5i but i dont know how to tell and where to find the information that will tell me... for instance if i buy a GReddy STi exhaust system made for 05-07 sTi WRX, will that fit?

If i bought engine components for my car using the same logic (its the same year, so theoretically you would think they wouldnt change the engine) will it fit? (speaking in terms of STi components) etc.. etc...

So i think you get the gist of it, so i was just wondering is their a rule of thumb? will anything that can fit on a WRX/Impreza/Forrester/STi fit onto my Liberty? given its from the same year bracket?

If NOT then is there a website i havent been able to find out there that people use to order STi gear and other assorted things for their Liberty's?

Cheers guys.

Hey there!

Umm... I don't think it would be that simple... because if it was, most of us will have chop suey STI Libertys. But seriously, the chassis design will be different between a Liberty and an Impreza. Best way to go about stuff you want to do, is hunt around on this forum for engine specific upgrades, and also have a look at exhaust shops etc. Being a Liberty, there won't be too much hunting around for different models etc.
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

it all depends on what youre looking at...some things will be interchangeable, some wont
that Greddy exhaust system you mentioned (whether as an example or not) wont fit
but wheels off an sti wrx will fit
a gearknob made to fit a wrx will fit since same subaru thread sizing
your best bet is just to see what other people have done, so lots of searching on the forums
and just ask away if unsure. also check with supplier/seller, they will probably know

Ahh yeah true, that all makes perfect sense! i'll just have to have a massive search fiesta in the mods section and try and find everything that im picturing in my head to do to her to make her pretty haha. was really hoping that GReddy would fit though.... i love the sound and the tips on those exhaust systems.

only problem is you're missing the engine, headers and turbo that produces the noise that the exhaust accentuates.
you can't make Justin Beiber sound like Metallica no matter what pipe he sings through.

Hahaha no worries! Like, I was in the similar mind to you and thought it would be easy for me to just get random parts to fit. Unfortunately no... but this forum has helped me heaps! You will find it very useful. Most mods I have done so far are just cosmetic... not much point in performance.... especially out of a 2L NA. But you can find that on my profile thread. So if you want ideas.... troll around on people's profiles... that's what I have done..

A 2.5i is a completely different engine to the turbo engines. Aren't the 2.5i's a single cam?
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

I read a bit into this topic... as far as I know... depending on what year the Liberty is... some of the 2.0L and 2.5Ls in the 04-06 are DOHC, but the later ones... 07-08 are single cam but with VVT or whatever the equivalent is. I found all this out on Redbook.com.au

HAHAHAHAHAHA, thats gold!

it does help though having a nice mandril bent exhaust and a clean finish... i know its more wank factor but at the end of the day thats what cars are for right?

Ok so if i wanted to modify my car, would it be cheaper/easier/better to either

A) Throw on a stock turbo and keep the PSI extremely low as the NA engines obviously aren't built as well to handle the turbo

B) Buy a half cut and do an engine swap (i have no idea what engines would fit and would be easiest as per changing the dash and other components)

End product expectations -

I don't want a heavily modified street machine, all i really want is something REALIABLY consistant and has a little oomph if i want to stick my foot on the gas from time to time. mostly cosmetic upgrades. bling here, bling there type of deal. but tasteful and nothing over the top :)

so... basically suggestions is what i need haha.

STi wheels won't fit our cars. They are 5x114.3
WRX rims are 5x100 so they will fit however I'm not 100% sure on the latest model WRX's as they share quite a few similarities with the STi's
[New: MY11 FPV F6 | Winter White | Pioneer DEX-P99RS | Alpine PDX-F6 | Alpine PDX-M12 | JL Audio 12W7-AE ]

Impreza STi rims from '05 on wont fit, as thats when they changed to 114.3. Before '05 no worries.

Lastest WRX's are still 5 X 100.
