Few questions on ebay screens

Postby Nick3.0R-B » Sat Mar 31, 2012 6:44 pm

gday lads

Need some guidance on the following ebay items, and if they will be compatible with my McIntosh system on the 2005 3.0 H6.
-Will the steering controls work? Vol +, Vol- and mute is what i would expect.
-Will it be as simple as unplug the old re connect the new?
-I have a fascia kit ready to go :)

Here are a im looking at. All very similar.

Three words.

Don't. Do. It.

Seriously though, you really get what you pay for. I installed something similar in my father in laws Hilux and it is horrendous. Utterly horrendous.

It will be nowhere near plug and play. I wouldn't even bother with eBay sh!t to be honest. Save your pennies for something decent that will be compatible with your steering controls (probably need another plug and play accessory to make it work) and you will have to run new speaker wires as the stock wires are at the amp under passenger seat, not at the back of the HU like other cars.

These units are about the best bang for your buck at the moment and they do everything you need.
Stay as far away from that Chinese crap as possible. They are rubbish.

This is what Marty said on the FHRX website and I've seen this unit and it look really nice.

A Quality Double DIN Navigator That Won't Decimate Your Bank Account? - 03/02/12

When it comes to double DIN navigation source units we receive model after model across our desks here, not only for installation because we're an audio store but also for auditioning and ultimately reviewing for various media publications. This practice tends to lend itself to a certain degree of apathy; where one begins to grow somewhat used to them possessing very similar features and abilities. So when the Mongoose Q222 landed here yesterweek we quickly scanned through the specification list and it too does pretty much the same as all the rest. However then we stumbled its ridiculous price tag - fair dinkum it's about a thousand dollars cheaper than about ninety percent of the competition!

Yes you did read that right; the retail of this deck is $1099 and it easily performs on par with most other double DIN navigators on the market! However rather than us bore you to death whilst we list what it'll do, perhaps you should instead head over to the Mongoose website for a full rundown of the Q222's abilities. You can also email us for further information or just keep an eye out for Marty's upcoming review in the next issue of INCAR magazine.

Had a cheapo eBay "eonon" unit like those in my old car, yes you get pay for but $300 is still a bit of money. Mine was $200 without GPS, it rattled but I fixed that, was going strong after 3 years. I was always planning on installing a CarPC in that car but it worked so well I just couldn't justify it.

Yes as I thought...chees for your responses. Quite helpful.

My question now is about re-wireing the speakers..so if I understand correctly, it will be amp to connect new hu with existing plug, then extend the existing speaker wires also to new hu.

Cheers

The car audio guys in Windsor said similar things about that Mongoose.

You can call it Rikki-Tikki-Tavi!

(The Mongoose from Rudyard Kipling's story, of course  )
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

I must admit I think that you would be hard pressed selling a Mongoose to me.
I have a Pioneer F20BT in my MX5 and it's fantastic. I would buy another one before I bought a Mongoose. Even if they are a fair bit cheaper.

The Mongoose one looks like a dead set copy of my Clarion NX501A...

I wonder if it would perform the same? if it did, I could imagine it could be a brilliant purchase!
