Gen 4 Sedan Suspension

Good evening all.

Firstly, appologies if this exact thing has been asked a million times over, but for the sake of getting a definite answer for my personal need, I thought I'd make a new thread anyway.

ALRIGHT here we go. I own a 2004 Subaru Liberty MY05 2.5L auto sedan. I've just fitted new wheels (Work Emotion CR Kai) and I'm looking to lower the car a bit just to get it looking.. right. This is where you lot come into play. No, I don't want coilovers because they cost too damn much and I don't plan on keeping the car long enough to justify the cost. Sooo..

What spring + shock combo do you recommend, where can they be purchased, and what sort of pricing are we looking at?

You can't go wrong with the Bilsteins through WheelPower. About $550 +install from memory.

As for springs, I can't comment as I haven't upgraded as yet.

This has been answered plenty of times mate..

But the basic consensus (From what I've read) is:

Billies with PHAT S-Techs, Springs are ~$440 (viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5095) for the set and new Billies from Wheelpower is ~$550. There some for sale here atm $650 viewtopic.php?f=25&t=15906


Decent quality entry level coilovers (BC Racing BR Series) can be found here from a local vendor for $1135 delivered.

IMO go for coilovers! Entry level BC BR mentioned above will cost only a little extra and will give you that perfect ride height.

I went the Bilstein/S-Tech route and wished I went for coilovers straight up. If you intend on upgrading to a later model Gen IV, whether it be STI or just GT then they are fully interchangeable too.

Cost is a major factor. I do like the car, but as previously stated I don't really intend on keeping it that long (first car = 12 months, second car = 6 months, third = creeping up on 3 months currently). JustJap sell BC Coils for $1,149 that should fit, but that just seems an excessive amount for suspension alone imo (coming from the guy who just spent $1,500 on new wheels..)

One thing that does worry me, being wider than the old stock wheels, they do come close to rubbing on the inner guard at stock height, lowering is going to screw me over even more. Solutions? (previous cars stayed stock, never had to worry about all this)

Just whack in some King spring lows - 30mm drop which should neaten it up if your not going to keep it long. Cheapest option.

New rims look sweet though.

King's on stock shocks, how is the ride going to be? In a perfect world I'd like to get new suspension fitted before Friday so my car looks a little more respectable chasing the drift cars around this weekend, but we all know that's not going to happen. With kings though (provided they're available locally) it would be possible..

Ride will be firmer of course but not too bad.

Pay about $250 for a full set of King lows. $350 fitted.

better shocks and shit springs is always more favorable than lesser shocks and good springs.

So if you care for ride, keep in mind some second hand bilstein struts for cheap, they show up often.

Remember though with coilovers, you can sell them when you sell your car. I don't think the cost is that much more to be honest.

What's the deal with those, with stock struts, wonder how the ride will be. Also is it hard to remove the spring from over the strut, I haven't done it before..

You need spring compressors. Don't cheap out on them, springs under the compression that car springs are under when loaded can be dangerous! I know from experience!!

Once the pressure of the spring is off the top hat you need to undo the nut (13mm I think) in the middle, take off the top hat and the spring will come off. VERY SLOWLY undo the spring compressors when removing from the old springs
