A couple of cosmetic mod questions

Postby Booslee » Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:15 pm

I've got a few questions about a Liberty that I might be inspecting. Already thinking about what mods I want to do with it.

Image
In this pic I'm wondering about the headlights. I'm assuming those are eyelids of some sort if anyone has experience with those, are they removable and if so, how difficult is the process?

Secondly, in regards to the bonnet protector, I'm assuming that it's screwed onto the underside, but if not, is that also removable?

Image

As for the rear spoiler, this is probably a bit of a stretch, but would it be possible replace that with a smaller lip spoiler?

I'm not too familiar with what can and can't be done so please enlighten me :)

Welcome Michael, you have the three ugliest options available for the gen 4 on your car, the eyelids will come off and so will the bonnet protector, The spoiler is the biggest trouble. Try looking at wreckers for a silver boot to replace with.

Yeah thought so. I'm still only at the inspection stage at the moment, I can't really find any that i'm a huge fan of (other than this potential) at the moment that's within my budget. Thanks for the quick help though

Remove those eyelids with an RPG.

I suggest inspecting a different car.
Like a 3.0 or GT

Had the same eyelids on mine when I bought it... Only got 2kms down the street from the sellers house before I pulled over and ripped them off, the double sided tape remanence looked better than the eyelids did in my opinion :D

Only issue with them will probably be the same as I had/have, the double sided tape has left a rock hard "ridge" of residue that has taken many hits with turps, metho and a heatgun/hairdryer to slowly remove, you may also need to give them a good plastic polish once they're off..

Hope this helps..

Under 25 driver still at uni, insurance and fuel prices (ULP for 3.0 and GT) would more than destroy my wallet.

Unleaded Premium doesn't have that much of an impact on your wallet at all despite the obvious difference in price at the pump.

You can get upwards to about 20% (or more) distance out of a tank from Premium unleaded petrol (which for most people can translate to upwards to 90kms extra distance travelled per tank in average driving), it combusts more efficiently which not only gives more usable power, but also leaves less carbon deposits behind in the engine, and even if you're a 50/50 hard/soft driver, by the end of a given year you'll have spent about the same money on Premium in less refills and have more distance travelled than on lesser fuel. Even if you were over in spending by say a whopping $350 for an entire year over the equivalent in regular unleaded because you're a bit flat-footed, that's only a dollar a day which even a Uni student could afford.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

I was looking at 3.0s at one point, but my budget is around 15k, give/take about 1k tops. Most of the (auto) 3.0s i've spotted are well over my budget, if I'm to include all the side costs.

On a different note, I spotted LGT 05T's Lib with these tail lights. I've tried to PM him but haven't gotten a response yet. Would anyone have any ideas about what's been done or where he got them? I think they look so clean.

Ok an off topic bump, but hopefully better than starting a new thread.

I'm going for 2 potential 3.0Rs now! I went and had a look at the Lib that I'd posted, wasn't appealing. Will be inspecting the 3.0 tomorrow. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for? This is gonna be my first time I've done a proper private inspection, I'm not that knowledgeable on car parts and stuff so any guidance or basic things to look out for would be awesome! :)

Holy shiznit. Those lights are freaking awesome. Where, how and how much!
I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!
