MY07 GT Reviews

Postby BlackGT » Fri Oct 27, 2006 11:31 am

I'm not sure how most people feel but almost all reviews of the new Liberty I have read havn't been that great. Again this morning I look in the SMH Drive section and the only positive thing they could say about the new GT was the stereo system.

I think the power in this new model is less than most people expected and according to the Motor magazine shoot out the GT is slower than a Megane. urghhhh. I would not want to know that my car was slower than a French slug. Also I personally wanted my MY05 GT to be faster than a stock WRX (which I think it is now) but wasn't which is a bit of a rip off considering that it advertised as being 190kW and a standard WRX was around 165kW.

Anyway hopefully ECUTek and other will change this image and turn the new 2.5 Liberty GT into what Subaru it advertises to be.

Just my opinion.

Yeah I agree that the power lacks but end of the day, comparing it to a megane? I rather ride in class with a tiny bit less power.

I agree but it's too tame. They need to unleash the beast.

yes, I know what you mean, you feel shortchanged in a way when it comes to performance compared to a WRX but then again the premium over a lower priced REX is not entirely unjustifiable.

Liberty is a larger car, in a different league when it comes to a interior feel and quality and it is more of a all rounder where WRX (or Megane) have a different image.

The new 2.5 GTB may be slower than Megane but we all know that the now old 2 L turbo is the one with more go  and it would kick Megane's big fat butt.......

Yeah but i think all this taming was due to the negative publicity about all the tuned by sti models not meeting the emissions requirements.

But yeah definately ALOT more power hidden that needs unleashing.

I'll send it to the FAAT man to have that done very soon!

Yeah a but disappointed with 184kw too, but never expected it to be as quick as the WRX.

2litre GT I drove 18 months ago wasn't quicker than the WRX either and seemed like a pretty dull drive compared to the MY07 model we've got now.

I'm sure Mr Ecutek or similar will get more out of it very shortly.

Upside is it's way more civilised and still quicker than most on the road.

As for the Megane. Well if you want to try to control all that power in a FWD good luck to you.

Now if u had an Audi RS/4 you wouldn't need to read any reviews, it screams!

But at double the cost of the lib.

Hey LGT20T, have u had a custom ecutek tune or just a stage 2?

I went back to MRT not long after that DYNO day and got a custom DYNO tune. It goes better now.
