I can supply some M/sq of that shiny mylar backed foam if you need to line your air box or wrap a pipe... It's only 3-5mm thick but can be found thicker.

The thinner foam is easier to work with. I have both thin & thick mylar backed foam and the thicker stuff is a pain in the backside to work with..

i wouldn;t bother wrapping it.
the airflow through the thing isn't going to cause that much time in contact with the pipe for significant heat transfer anyway.

i suppose, its only really hot to touch, as when im driving the air flow through the pipe should be somewhat quick...

It insulates the pipe from the engine heat under the hood. You will feel the difference when touch an insulated and uninsulated pipe, I did feel physically. I would recommend it..

yes the pipe will get hot to touch
along with the manifold, airbox, throttle body, intake chamber, etc

but the time the air is in contact with the smooth walled pipe (not ideal for effective heat transfer due to low surface area)
is negligible and so will be the amount of heat transferred from the pipe to the air.

The thermal conductivity of steel is high, that is why we are trying to minimize it. The air inside goes along with the heat of convection caused by the heat transferred from the pipe exterior to interior. Why it is better to use silicon rather than ss, because of the thermal conductivity & heat of convection.. That how I see it

That's ok when you're dealing with air that is static. But when you have the air moving through it in the quantities we're dealing with here. It's not going to give any measurable benefit.

I think i may have found an airbox.

The only available airbox is for the Gen3 models, but the engine bay setup isnt too different, right?
if so, im planning on taking a stab and purchasing an airbox for the Gen3 model and see how it fits

how is it? the $50 box i found on the net, was going to cost me $60 postage! might have to wait for a few extra funds come in. i've still gotta pay the rest off my front bar
