Well with cruisn, Mark, as busy as ever, I thought I'd get off my hands and have a crack at a number plate spacer kit.
Went down to Bunnings to have a look see and came back with a 20mm X 3mm aluminium flat bar for a total cost of $5. I think that's the least I've ever spent at Bunnings. I am on a pretty strict budget to get the car finished so was happy with my self control on this occassion.

Took me an hour to complete and I'm pretty happy with the result.

I didn't take any work in progress pics, but here's what I did.

I wanted to keep the number plate surrounds, which came with a solid black rubber spacer. I trimmed this spacer to about 5mm and attached it to a piece of about 75mm long flat bar. I then used a slightly longer than standard number plate bolt and screwed up with the captive nut that sits in my bumper. Made sure these were straight and placed the number plate against it and worked out the height I was after, marked it and drilled a couple of holes.

Fastened the number plate to the flat bar using a nut and bolt that I cut down short enough to fit and hidden so it can't be seen once the plate surround is installed.

I've kept about a 2mm gap between the surround to ensure it doesn't rub against the bumper at any time.

I've added a pic taken from the top to show how it sits out.

I reckon it still looks stock and allows more air in. This mod is worth at least 1kw..

Update time:

Well the time has come to get the final bits on to complete my suspension and handling mods. I've managed to get a booking at Trutrack. Work to be done tomorrow.

- Install Racecomp Tarmac 1 coilovers - Front spring rate 7kgs. Rear 9kgs
- Install J Speed LCA bushes - Purchased from Phat
- Install Cusco front H brace
- Install Cusco rear 4 part chasis brace
- Check and grease all other suspension components as required.
- Corner weight
- Four wheel alignment.

I've been told the car will be transformed following this and I can't wait.

Will report back tomorrow night.

The final addition to complete the handling mods will be the install of the Torsen front diff. This will happen after completion of the power mods to see if the clutch slips as I'll do replace it during this process if required.

Actually I've teed up some driver instruction with Barrie Crocker. Just waiting on the last of the engine mods and retune before confirming a date. Most likely Sandown in April.

I hope so too. Either way I'm really happy to finally get the car into Trutrack so that they can perform their magic. Dropped the car off this morning and had a chat with Ralph. Seems like a top bloke and loved the matt black Maserati there at the moment.

Top bloke alright. I've spoken to him about my diff install on the phone a couple of times. Had always seen him at the WRX club meets, though not knowing who he was didn't introduce myself. Last week at the club meet it finally hit me who he was and I got chatting with him and he remembered our conversations about the diff install and I picked his brain on modding and weaknesses etc about the 2.5l motors. He also offered at this time to take me out on the track and give me some time in the driver instruction part of the next track day. One's planned for this Sunday at Calder, but I'll wait till Sandown next month to have a crack. Still got a little more work to do to get the car sorted.
