With these I am extremely impressed and with awesome collectors etc etc. The shop gave them a slight coat of black to prevent rusting and they would have looked better in raw metal for purpose of the photo..

The collectors are now simply perfect and vast improvement not only on our first design but also over the Tommi design.

I will do a limited run of 4 sets at $660 ONLY.

The price has increased due to cost of the improved collector design and significant amount of TIG welding (labour time) internally.

Once I have tested these and determine I am happy with them I will make 4 sets, how I determine who gets them ..... I have no clue yet apart from a couple who have already placed firm orders. Will cross this bridge in a weeks time

Tim, you've done an awesome job on R&D in such a short timeframe and obviously at your own cost.
$$$ paid first is the only fair way to prioritise these things.

right here you've told people that it's about a week until you're ready to take orders
surely everyone that's interested in securing one of the first sets will look at this thread in the week.
That gives them more than enough time to come up with the cash if they're serious about it.
even take a 50% deposit this week if people are really serious. and the balance once you've received the sets

The work I see looks very promising! If all goes well, you may have to ship one of these over to me in Canada . Like Kodax mentioned, I am sure there are a number of us members on the LegacyGT forum that would love to have one of these. The options for us, especially in the United States and Canada, are severely limited so it is great to see development on a piece of kit like this. I've been watching this thread for a few weeks now and am very impressed that this has turned from a simple idea into reality.

If you wouldn't mind, I just have a couple of quick questions

1) In the prototype shown above, is the collector made out of stainless steel? The spot weld looks a little bit unusual, but I assume that this is due to the part just being a prototype right now.

2) Will this part fit on a car with an automatic transmission? I see many of you have 3.0R Spec B (lucky! we don't get that over here ) and wasn't sure if all of those cars came with manual transmissions. I know K2Gear specifies an AT and MT version of their system.

1), This latest item mild steel entirely, fine for prototyping and fine for budget headers. You can option stainless steel, cost will be quite a lot more due to a further increase in TIG welding time/labour. I personally will be happy to run the MS myself, it will be painted with VHT flat black flame proof Mica ceramic paint to keep cost down and protect the metal

2) I have yet to check it on an auto trans vehicle, but its like this, if the stock manifolds are the same on both engines then these headers WOULD fit both vehicles equally as these new headers occupy the same space envelope. I suspect this IS the case, but please prove me wrong someone

Thanks for the reply. I will wait and see as to fitment. We don't even have a 3.0R Spec B here, just the 2.5 Spec B. All of our NA cars are automatics

Jig will remain around for a long time. I may yet adjust the secondary size, I did request it to be a bit smaller but for now let me run some dyno sessions with XTR and see what the results show

These have been fited to the vehicle in a 30min operation.

Direct bolt on as before

I have taken logs and sent those to XTR - analysis and discussion will follow, my seat of pants-o-meter says "this is the PERFECT" setup. The data needs to be inspected and I take it from there

There is one major issue, the guys left too big a clearance in the slip joints, they are leaky. We got to discussing that RIGHT away and a new correct clearance set will be made tomorrow. The wiped a bit of silicon along the fronts of the joints to get me through the next few hrs until I get the next new set fitted on the vehicle. I will then also have them rectify this current header set so they are leak free also. The leaking really affected the performance once the silicon was blown off, I called it quits on the testing at that stage

The costs are really mounting up, but I feel we are 1 set away from total perfection, once the sealing is sorted we are set for go, I guess that between the lines that "could" tell you about how the engine performance feels regarding filling in the torque vs the first header set at 3500

Honestly, 660 is not bad for the gains of v2 headers. Gains from low rpm till 5500rpm where cam lift comes in is well worth it.

I look forward to v3. The 3R community is luck for you. I wonder how my 2R would work with good headers?????

That is the results, thankyou very much to XTR, this community is all the richer for your being here. Without you there is no way we could have such rapid results so quickly.

Remember the only other change since previous stock header test is adding XADO oil additive to engine and gearbox. Normally an additive would account for nothing - so lets go with that although the fuel economy achieved the other day is pointing to something.

Here is a brief summary of what has been achieved

1. The stock Subaru header makes equal top end power to Header V2, but header V2 is king everywhere else

2. The V1 header (big primary) made the most power of all, but had big torque hole around 3000 - 4000rpm, didnt feel good for daily driving, but if you want EXTRA power from >4000 only ........ this would be your header!! Yes you can buy the test set if you make me an offer, remember mid torque is weak but top end howls

3. The V2 header (smaller primary) makes more torque in a progressive curve across nearly the entire rpm band. With over 20Nm MORE at 3500rpm (for instance) and equal top end power to stock this header feels fantastic to drive. The car really climbs into the action at 3400rpm and just keeps the action going, so easy to drive too with more pull in the critical daily driving RPM range. V2 will now go to market in this specification that was tested. Also, the torque is more AND peak is under 5000rpm in every run if I recall, whereas stock manifold had less torque and the peak always over 5000rpm.

I believe that any further power gains at the top end are all going to come from higher flowing cats and a Cat back exhaust, we are then likely to see top end power climb further. The headers are good for it!


NOW - FINAL WORD - the results obtained are best we can do, all as fair and square as possible, whether you see these results OR any benefit on your car is not a guaranteed thing. You wont find ANY one else even bothering to test their product in this country, we have made and tested and discarded that which did not perform to better than a stock item

Can I make a recommendation?

Can you try v2 primaries with a 2.5'ID Collector?

I believe that v2 w/ 2.25" ID Collector is Street/Sport Header; v2 w/ 2.5" ID Collector could be Sport/Race Header.

Once you finalised the minor fixes, lets see if we can gain any tuning on the headers. That would be interesting to see.
