don;t forget the how things like the ABS, gearbox speed sensors, dash cluster, cruise control, etc all rely on the ECU and BCM signals to operate correctly.
all of this needs to be looked at.
you can't just "bolt in a box"

well there's 13 3-RB Manual sedans in dealers at the moment...

plus you haven't even said what year/ model you actually want or how much money you're willing to spend

Don't jump in and buy something, if you want a manual then wait for one.. You'll regret buying it.. I wanted a 3.0 but came across a 2.5i that I couldn't pass up, although now I wish I had waited for what I want.

If my car was manual, I may have kept it for longer.

I don't understand.. You need to stop contradicting yourself, before you asked about doing a manual conversion. If you had every intention of now purchasing and driving an automatic then why post this in the first place?

But why would you ask if you have already decided you'd prefer an auto due to the 3hr stop start driving?

I think you should decide 100% if you want an auto or a manual and then take it from there.

I have a manual and although peak hour traffic can shit me up the wall, I'd still prefer it over the auto.

be carfull not to play with the 3.0r ECU harness. Change to spec b ECU.. also, you can actully replace yours with any Subaru manual trannsy (WRX, STI, Impreza, Legy) provided that you make a perfect match with the center diff, gear ratio, shift rod, ..

If you can have a guy who knows how to upgread your trannsy with the IPT gear kit then I'd suggest you to do.
