Power steering Fluid - ATF Dex3, what brand?

Postby Brunsy3.0 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:53 pm

Hey all,

I have a 3.0L H6 2007 Lib

I am just about to flush and refill my power steering fluid as it is looking very dirty and getting a bit low

i will be checking for leaks etc. and making sure its at correct markings when refilled

I am just tossing up mainly between Castrol Dex3, Penrite Dex3 or Penrite MHP (which is recommended by Penrite)

I use Penrite HPR 5w40 semi synthetic for the engine and i am a fan of penrite, though i havent had much to do with Castrol

any information or advice would be highly appreciated, whether it be what you have used in the past or what you may have heard of someone else, or if your a mechanic and know what's what, it will all be taken on board to make a more educated decision

cheers

Castrol is good. Penrite is better.

I'm also a fan of using one oil brand for every oil in the car, so again, Penrite haha.

Is MHP suitable for powersteering? If so, yes. Dexron 3 is a pretty basic oil.

yeah the Penrite site seems to say its suitable for the power steering and used in place of any dex 3 oils, i think ill give the castrol a go and if im either not happy with it or next time i take the time to flush it i might try the penrite see if it is any better or worse, the ATF are fairly cheap so a little bit of waste isnt too much of a worry

thanks for your input Dropz

I'm using Martini Racing for PS/Brake fluid. Seems to be a few people using it on here and they recommend it.
