Tyres for 18x8.5

Hi all,

I am very close to purchasing some rims which are 18x18.5 and I really like them and I am aware that I will need to get some guard rolling done so that they don't rub.

I do not have muchany experience with wheels + tyres or cars for that matter, and whilst I am learning fast, I cannot for the life of me decide which tyres I will need for these wheels?

THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT SIZES WHOH

anyway. I would like them to be low/mid profile, being 18's I am aware that it will be a hard ride to start with so I don't want to go too low.

What and how do the sizing work and what is recommended and how do I choose?

I would go 235/40/18

Hi jakey,

A lot is depending on the offset of rims, on legacygt they allege 255/35/R18 can fit.....
I will be trying to see if this is true soon as my 18x8.5's arrive.
Otherwise I saw a lib with 18x8 PFF7s on it with 245/40/R18 at the Perth cruise, looked good.

Is the car lowered?

IMO take advantage of the wheel width, get the guards rolled and run 245/40r18

Not lowered yet but I would like to think that I will lower it in the future.. One thing at a time!

I'd lower it first, otherwise you run the risk of the car looking like its on tiptoes.

235/40 on 8.5s is what they should have been from the factory.

I suppose this problem doesn't reside in VIC?

What exactly do these tyre sizes tell me? Isn't the 235 the mm width? Wouldn't that mean 9.4 inches wide? But the wheels are 8.5? That doesn't make sense to me wouldn't you want these the same?

Tyres are flexible, so you can put them on to rims that are larger or smaller with a bit of stretch.

For example, 235s are ok for 8-9.5" rims

There are people running 215s on 9.5" rims.

You have mentioned previously that it isn't so straight forward to get 245s all round on the lib. Is guard rolling all that is required?
(I guess it depends on rim offset too)

No idea, but for a 05 GT lib that came with 215/45/17 it's illegal to go to 235/40/18?
