How tall are you and how do you normally sit while driving?

You may be in for a world of pain after your first long trip.

Don't get me wrong, the car is great.

However ..

The seats are below average and the headrests are a total disgrace.

If the Passat R36 was available, I would have bought it instead.

Not sure what the current seats are like (I have read somewhere here that they are worse than the old ones), but I drive about 45,000K's a year in my car, with plenty of long stints, and find it quite comfortable.
It's an MY04 with cloth trim BTW.

I have owned Subarus since 1994 when I bought my first wrx. During the following 13 years, I've had 7 including this MY08 GT spec.B and driven over a HUNDRED others.

The MY08 GTB has the worst seats I think I've sat in over that 13 year period and I spent a large portion of that time getting in and out of cars while teaching driver training.

My "drive to the station" car is an MY05 Impreza GX Luxury and even that little econobox has seats that put the $60k Liberty flagship to shame.

I've been dealing with a motor trimmer to try and fix the problems and have improved the situation, but these seats are still inferior to MY05, MY07, whatever. They really are shite.

I otherwise like the car very much and will likely finish up just ripping the bloody things out and putting in Recaros (or MY07 seats). Obviously either option will be expensive.

So if you own an MY08 and can drive it for 3 hours without needing serious physiotherapy afterwards, then please disagree with me.

But to everyone else, this guy is buying an MY08 and the seats are completely to different to every other Subaru (because I've driven almost all of them).

Yes, this will be my last Subaru. Not because the seats are shit, but because Subaru Aust have made it abundantly obvious that once they have your money, they don't give a damn.

MY08 gtb ordered

Bugger, now you tell me. I have had an 05 OB for 3 years, and have found those seats a bit firm and hard on the bum after a few hours, so if the new ones are worse, thats not good news. Havent had any height issues at 5'10" .

Yes I was after Diamond grey, out of the limited colours available (there are actually NO GTB wagons free in stock in the country). There is a Black coming, but its months away. There is one demo car here in Melb in Diamond, but its optioned up the kazoo out of price reach.
I gave a service guy a go about hesitation, and he actually admitted it existed, that its fly-by-wire related, and they are working on it. I made it pretty clear to him and the sales person that if they tell me the hesitation is my fault, I will be making lots of noise and looking for solutions.

Have you heard the expression 'Comfort is one of those things you cant define, but you know when you HAVENT got it'?

What are you doing with the seats to improve them?

JP, what about this one?

Click

I noticed it while thinking about offloading mine (which I have decided not to do).

It only has 1,000km and would have a 5 year warranty.

Outback seats are heaven by comparison. I had an MY01 H6 and would swap those seats in a heartbeat.

I have modified the headrests and adjusted some the seat bolstering, but there's only so much you can do before it's better to just get a different seat.

I'll stress again, the car (crap tune aside) is otherwise great.

Adam, I'm 6'2" mate. My wife is 6'1", so we are not shorties, but not giants either (both her brothers are 6'5").

I've driven a few MY07s and would happily swap with you. Fancy and electrically adjustable passenger seat?

A quick sit is okay.

I didn't realise how bad they were until I'd put 1000km on it.

I don't think being vertically challenged (PC for short) would help much, but you may not mind them if you drive with the seat back reclined in the fullee sik position.

Anyway, don't let me put you off JP. Just be aware that as an MY08 owner, I don't care about the hesitation or anything else you were mildly concerned about .. just the seats.

Quite a few of the guys here have fitted a sprint booster to their cars to eliminate the fly-by-wire lag if that's what you meant by hesitation.

They seem to absolutely adore it. Thread Link
